National hero Truong Dinh was born in 1820 in Tu Cung village (now Tinh Khe commune, Quang Ngai city). This is a peaceful countryside, with a long history of culture and a rich tradition of patriotism.
After leaving his hometown to follow his father to the South to make a living, Truong Dinh became the first anti-French leader in the early stages of the movement against the French colonial invasion of our people in the second half of the 19th century.
While the resistance movement was rising, on June 5, 1862, the Hue court and France signed the Nham Tuat Treaty, ceding to France 3 provinces in Eastern Cochinchina and ordering him to stop fighting, appointing him as the Commander of An Ha (An Giang), and then transferring him to Phu Yen.
Faced with personal interests and the people's trust, Truong Dinh decided to stay and fight side by side with the insurgents against the enemy. In February 1863, the insurgents built an altar to worship the general, honoring him as "Binh Tay Dai Nguyen Soai" and calling themselves "Trung Thien Tuong Quan".
The flag of the Great Marshal of the West with the slogan of the movement "Phan - Lam sells the country, the court is proud of the people" flew everywhere, the people believed and followed, the number of insurgents increased rapidly, the movement to fight against the French grew stronger and stronger.
On the night of August 19, 1864, Truong Dinh's army was suddenly attacked. In the unequal battle, Truong Dinh was seriously wounded. Determined not to fall into the enemy's hands, he drew his sword and committed suicide in the early morning of August 20, 1864.

Moved by the self-sacrifice and heroic sacrifice of the patriotic general, the struggle movement of the people of Cochinchina grew stronger. Truong Dinh's son, Truong Quyen, followed his father's will, determined to fight the enemy, and was later assassinated in 1870.
Binh Tay Grand Marshal Truong Dinh sacrificed his life, but his name and his career of fighting the enemy and defending the country will forever be associated with Go Cong land, the pride of his hometown Tien Giang, Quang Ngai and the whole country.
