Deputy Director of Yen Lap Lake Protective Forest Management Board Bui Huu Rin :
Early plans to collect and utilize fallen and broken forest products
Yen Lap Lake Protective Forest plays a very important role in preserving the water source for Yen Lap Lake. However, storm No. 3 has destroyed more than 1,000 hectares of planted forests within the boundary of the Yen Lap Lake Protection Forest Management Board, leading to the current forest coverage rate of only about 83%. On the other hand, the planted forest area of the Management Board is mainly concentrated on both sides of Yen Lap Lake, playing an extremely important role in retaining soil, retaining water, preventing erosion, leaching and landslides. With the current situation, in the rainy season next year, the water will drain very quickly and carry a large amount of soil and rock, making the water source in the lake cloudy, causing sedimentation in the reservoir.
In the immediate future, to quickly restore the damaged forest area, protect the forest, and effectively respond to climate change, the unit needs to carry out exploitation of the completely damaged forest area; at the same time, clear and clean the forest for PCCCR; then design reforestation in strips for large, native tree species, combined with protection and conservation so that the forest can develop according to natural succession... Therefore, the unit requests that competent authorities soon have a plan to collect and utilize fallen and broken forest products and have a plan to replant the forest in the next crop; provide funds to build a white strip, reducing the source of flammable materials after the storm.
