Speeding up the progress of traffic projects connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Long Thanh airport

Ho Chi Minh City is urgently speeding up the progress of a series of key projects connecting to Long Thanh International Airport, mobilizing human resources and equipment for construction.


On February 14, the office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee conveyed the direction of Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong on the implementation of projects and works connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh International Airport.

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong assigned the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) to mobilize human resources, equipment, supplies, machinery, and construction materials to speed up the construction progress of projects such as the overpass section in Thu Duc City (component project 1 of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 construction investment project); An Phu traffic intersection construction project.

The Traffic Department is required to ensure progress according to the plan; complete the project before December 31.

In addition, proactively coordinate with the People's Committee of Thu Duc City and related departments, agencies and units to strive to start construction of a number of items of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 construction project (section from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Street and section from Vo Nguyen Giap Street to Pham Van Dong Street) before April 30, completing the project in the second quarter of 2026.

The Transport Department proactively coordinates with relevant units to speed up the implementation of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway expansion project (section connecting An Phu intersection to Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2, about 4km long); strives to start construction in the third quarter of 2025 and complete in the third quarter of 2026.

Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport to urgently submit for approval the construction project of Ring Road 2 (section 1, section 2), to be completed before February 17.

Among the key projects connecting Long Thanh airport mentioned above, the An Phu and Ring Road 3 intersection project is being constructed by the Traffic Department and contractors in three shifts, four shifts, during holidays and Tet to keep up with progress.

The An Phu Interchange Project started construction in December 2022 with a total investment of more than VND3,400 billion. The project items include the construction of two two-way underpasses connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street, extending across Dong Van Cong Street.

Currently, the two bridges of the project, Giong Ong To 2 Bridge and Ba Dat Bridge, have been completed but not yet put into use. They are expected to open to traffic along with the entire project in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Ring Road 3 project has achieved more than 30% of its workload, basically meeting the set schedule.

As for some items of the XL1 package within the scope of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway interchange, contractors are speeding up construction to complete before April 30, synchronously connecting with the Nhon Trach bridge construction package.

For the 14.7km overpass of the project belonging to 5 construction packages in Thu Duc City, the units are also urgently constructing.

For the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 project through Thu Duc City, there are currently about 6km of unfinished roads with a total investment of nearly 14,000 billion VND, of which compensation costs are about 7,500 billion VND.

Thu Duc City People's Committee is implementing compensation payments, support, and mobilizing households, individuals, and organizations to agree with the relocation policy and project policies to soon hand over the site to the investor to start the project in the second quarter of 2025.

Finally, there is the project to expand the access road to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2. According to the plan, the project will expand the access road from 4 lanes to 8 lanes with a total investment of nearly 1,000 billion VND.

Currently, the City Department of Transport has prepared, submitted for appraisal and approval of the investment proposal, and submitted to competent authorities for appraisal and approval of the feasibility study report. It is expected that the project will start construction in the third quarter of 2025 and be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.
