"Thanh Hoa province will direct departments and branches to advise, research, and prioritize the allocation of resources to develop trade and tourism infrastructure, promote trade, and consume goods for businesses in mountainous areas. In particular, the province will focus on supporting the construction of a number of infrastructure facilities linked to tourist areas and spots, with the goal of building outstanding tourism products, creating sharp highlights on the tourism map of the province as well as in the region". That was emphasized by the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee at the Conference on connecting supply and demand of agricultural products, food and tourism in the Western region of Thanh Hoa in 2024.
On the afternoon of December 6, in Thuong Xuan district, the Provincial People's Committee held a Conference on connecting supply and demand of agricultural products, food and tourism in the Western region of Thanh Hoa in 2024. The Western Thanh Hoa region includes 11 districts, with a natural area of nearly 8,000 km 2 ; a population of over 1.1 million people; of which more than 70% are ethnic minorities. In recent years, with the support of the Central and the province, localities in the Western Thanh Hoa region have focused on exploiting potentials and advantages, promoting economic, trade and tourism development. The average annual growth rate of industrial production value in the mountainous region is estimated at 10.25%. Total retail sales of goods and services of localities increased by an average of 20%/year; commercial enterprises increased by an average of 8% - 10%/year.
With the terrain conditions strongly divided into regions with different climates, many rivers, streams, ponds, lakes, large water surface areas, the strengths of production facilities in mountainous areas are long-standing agricultural, livestock and processing products. Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province Vuong Thi Hai Yen spoke at the conference.
The entire region has formed commodity production areas, creating many high-quality agricultural, food and medicinal products, with 135 products recognized as 3-star OCOP and 1 product recognized as 4-star OCOP, meeting standards and quality to be put into the distribution system in the province, domestically and towards export.
Mountainous districts have also built and developed chains linking production and consumption of safe agricultural products and food; many of which have been and are being effective, such as: Dairy farming associated with milk processing factories of large enterprises.
Tourism activities, especially community tourism and ecotourism, are developing rapidly. In the period 2020 - 2024, the number of visitors to the province's mountainous community tourism achieved an average growth rate of 9.7%, higher than the average of the whole province.

At the conference, delegates focused on evaluating the results in developing agricultural production, trade, and tourism associated with the formation of typical products in the Western region of Thanh Hoa; discussed and proposed solutions to improve the efficiency of production and business activities, promote linkages in agricultural product consumption, increase service revenue, and invest in developing tourism in the Western region in the coming time.

Speaking at the conference, Comrade Nguyen Van Thi, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed: Socio-economic development in mountainous areas has been identified by the 19th Executive Committee of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee as one of the 6 key programs for the 2020-2025 term. Many programs, plans and projects to support economic development in this area have also been implemented by the Provincial People's Committee.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested departments and branches to continue supporting enterprises, production cooperatives and distribution enterprises in the province in general and in 11 mountainous districts of the province in particular to participate in trade promotion programs, activities connecting supply and demand of goods to meet, seek cooperation opportunities, promote consumption of goods, combine to check the production and business capacity of enterprises and cooperatives; promptly resolve difficulties of enterprises and units in the consumption of goods; build and develop brands; effectively exploit opportunities of free trade agreements to export products and goods produced in the region with high quality and suitable to the tastes of the international market.
He also suggested that mountainous districts continue to promote land accumulation to develop specialized agricultural and commodity production areas on a large scale, with high efficiency according to the value chain and linked to the market; increase attraction of enterprises to invest in agriculture, trade, develop OCOP products, build brands of local agricultural products; maximize the potential and strengths of tourism, promote the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities; pay attention to training human resources as well as increase promotion to promote tourism development.
