Heartbroken young Quang Nam player dies after car overturns

On June 25, the Quang Nam Youth team finished the final match of the first leg of Group A of the 2023 National Second Division qualifying round at Vinh Phuc's Kon Tum Stadium with a 5-0 victory over the home team. The 3 points earned helped coach Dang Duc Nhat and his team temporarily climb to second place on the rankings.

After the victory over Vinh Phuc, this morning the Quang Nam Youth team set off for Tam Ky to prepare for the second leg against Da Nang Youth, but unfortunately while going down Vi O Lac Pass - the border area between Kon Plong District - Kon Tum Province and Ba To District - Quang Ngai Province, the team's vehicle overturned, causing the death of player Vo Minh Hieu.

Vo Minh Hieu was born in 2002 and was trained at Da Nang team. He then joined Quang Nam Youth and became a key player of Quang Nam Second Division team.

Two other players who were seriously injured were midfielder Nguyen Phi Hung and Luong Quang Huy, along with a fan who was with the team. They are currently being taken to Quang Nam for emergency treatment. A leader of Quang Nam Club said: "There have been casualties. Currently, the club's management board as well as the provincial leaders are present in Quang Ngai to carry out rescue work, as well as support the entire team."

According to initial information, the car lost its brakes while going downhill and the tragic accident occurred. Several other injured players are also being urgently taken to Quang Nam for treatment.

Quang Nam Youth Team is playing very well in the 2023 national second division tournament when competing for the top spot. The recent 5-0 victory over Vinh Phuc helped the Quang Nam youth team climb to 2nd place on the rankings. This is definitely a huge mental shock for coach Dang Duc Nhat and his team.
