Negotiations to extend MU and De Gea's contract have reached a deadlock.
Manchester Evening News said that negotiations between MU and De Gea are at an impasse, not only about salary.
De Gea is said to have accepted a pay cut (compared to the highest salary in the world for a goalkeeper - £375,000/week). However, he does not want to take too much of a pay cut.
Meanwhile, MU wants him to take a deeper pay cut and, importantly, accept that he is no longer the number one choice in front of the Red Devils' goal.
Coach Erik ten Hag is currently targeting a new goalkeeper to become the long-term number one for MU, especially after De Gea's recent mistakes, although overall he is still the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets this season in the Premier League.

MU may say goodbye to 13 players in the summer transfer window of 2023
Manchester Evening News reported that MU could part with 13 players in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have a number of players whose contracts expire at the end of the season. In addition, coach Erik ten Hag also wants to sell some names that are not in the plan to have more money to buy new ones.
Five players are set to leave Old Trafford on free transfers, including Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe.
The remaining eight, including Alex Telles, Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire, are likely to be sold to raise money for new signings and reduce the wage bill.
MU is still in the "confused" stage, being put up for sale since November last year but the winner has not yet been decided, with the race between the two most potential candidates - Qatari billionaire, Sheikh Jessim and Jim Ratcliffe.
Therefore, coach Erik ten Hag still does not know how much money he will be given for summer shopping.

Harry Kane decides to leave Tottenham but new destination is unclear
Foot Mercato reported that Harry Kane's agent met with PSG sporting director Luis Campos to consider a move to play in Paris.
Harry Kane is likely to leave Tottenham in the summer, with both sides having one year left on their contracts.
The source added that the England captain has not yet decided on his next destination after leaving the London Roosters. Harry Kane is taking the opportunity to research potential clubs in order to make the most suitable choice.
According to Le Perisien , PSG are targeting a new number 9, with Messi set to leave Paris in the summer and not even ruling out Kylian Mbappe.
The Tottenham striker is said to be a priority target for MU. Coach Erik ten Hag needs a top-class striker like Harry Kane.
However, Chairman Levy is said to not let Kane join Premier League rivals if he is forced to sell. This means the striker can only play abroad.
