Dalat Spring Concert - a special art event held annually at international level. The upcoming project will bring disco music popular in Vietnam in the 70s and 80s, familiar to Vietnamese audiences of the 60s, 70s, and 90s generations, such as Boney M's music to Dalat.
Music legends Modern Talking, Boney M will appear in Da Lat
Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai, Deputy Director of Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said: "2024 marks an important turning point with the launch of the project. For the first time, world music legends will gather and perform in Da Lat. This is an opportunity to realize the goal of making Da Lat a destination for world music peaks.
An event that is actually not unusual in the world or in the country, what is important is the feeling of Vietnamese people meeting each other in Da Lat city. In response to the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival, under the direction of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Lam Dong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Da Lat City People's Committee, Lam Dong Cultural and Arts Center in collaboration with IB Group Vietnam organized the annual international music event. This is a great joy for Lam Dong in general and Da Lat in particular."
Boney M band will perform at Dalat Spring Concert project.
Ms. Tran Thi Vu Loan, Vice Chairwoman of Da Lat City People's Committee shared: "We are honored to be the coordinating unit, accompanying the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong and IB Group to organize the Dalat Spring Concert event at Lam Vien Square, Da Lat City.
When UNESCO recognized Da Lat as a creative city of music, Da Lat coordinated and accompanied the Department and units to implement international programs and artist exchange programs in Da Lat.
It is an honor that on December 21, IB Group will bring to our city the music legends, an indispensable part of the musical memories of generations. This is an honor for Da Lat to introduce the city to international friends.
In addition, we will live with music legends. Hopefully this is a good start to spread international-class music events to Da Lat, the beginning of annual international music events. We will work hard with IB Group to bring quality, impressive programs."

Doctor on duty 24/7 for artists before show time
Answering the question about how the Dalat Spring Concert in Dalat is different from previous grand events, is there anything special about the international format on an outdoor stage? Mr. Nguyen Thuy Duong, Chairman of IB Group Vietnam - Production Director of Dalat Spring Concert said that legends like Modern Talking, Boney M and Kenny G that IB Group brought to Vietnam mostly performed indoors while Dalat Spring Concert performed outdoors.
The second difference compared to the previous Good Morning Vietnam series that IB produced and Dalat Spring Concert is that the bands both sing and perform, while the Good Morning Vietnam project only performs musical instruments.
Mr. Duong affirmed that the international standards here are technical equipment for sound, lighting, and outdoor music standards that require great demands.
"The international standard of Dalat Spring Concert is to have 3 groups of artists performing, we have to prepare 3 independent sound systems that meet the band's requirements. With that space, how many dB is the hearing level for the audience to hear?
For this event we had to prepare 6 mixers to operate the entire sound system to create the most realistic sound quality of the music night.
There are some difficult things that still have to be done even though they seem simple, like a keyboard that can cost up to 100,000 USD but according to Boney M's request, the keyboard had to be produced more than 20 years ago.
It took us 3-4 weeks to find it today because only it can produce Disco music. We have to meet all the requirements for them to express the artists' music," said Mr. Duong.

Regarding backstage information about foreign artists when they come to Vietnam, Mr. Duong said: "There is always a doctor on duty 24/7 so that artists can ensure the best health before the show to serve the music listeners."
Responding to the question of how to develop the cultural industry in Da Lat, Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai said: "Da Lat chooses performing arts and cinema as two spearheads for developing the cultural industry. Our ambition is to choose Bao Loc as the land of tea and silk, aiming to become a UNESCO creative city of cuisine.
To implement Prime Minister's Directive 30 on developing cultural industry, we are taking experts from scientists to organize a national workshop.
We identify cultural tourism as inevitable, we choose to go differently. Only when that difference stands out will it become a difference and Dalat Spring Concert is also a difference."
No distance
Along with that, Mr. Tran Thanh Hoai also added to the question of the music market in Da Lat which is inherently young. However, the above veteran bands are suitable for middle-aged people. How to solve the problem?

Mr. Hoai confidently said: "Standards and values are set by people. Generations 7X, 6X, 7X are now successful people, when they come to Da Lat, they have children and grandchildren following them. Young people now are more willing to spend.
But we are not afraid to organize music events, Tchaikovsky's music or Trinh's music are still loved by GenZ. Classical music is formed in the mind and the cultural industry is developing.
Da Lat is a highland area, 3 out of 5 men know how to play musical instruments, all women like to sing. Da Lat has many attractive places. As for the audience, just the preliminary rehearsal of the Flower Festival had 6,000 people watching, the final rehearsal had 12,000 people watching.
The audience for Dalat Spring Concert is not a problem, the square can accommodate 15,000 people. Just playing music, the number of tourists on weekend nights is also very large. We aim at local people and international tourists."
Responding to questions about expectations for promoting Da Lat's cultural and tourism image to international friends through the above programs, Ms. Tran Thi Vu Loan said: "This program has the ability to connect Da Lat to have a creative music space of international standards.
Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has provided a lot of support, including funding, for Da Lat to organize large-scale music programs and international music events. When joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Da Lat committed to participating in activities in the next 3-5 years.
Dalat Spring Concert affirms that this is a destination connecting international artists. International artists coming to Dalat will be a way to promote Dalat, Lam Dong.
For concerts like this, with 15,000 seats, about 20-25 thousand visitors filled Lam Vien Square. For the first time, an international band came to the city with songs that resonated with people from the 70s and 80s, but the show did not sell tickets.
This is Da Lat's gratitude to the people and tourists, creating conditions for artists with international brands to come to Da Lat, connecting performance spaces with international standards and quality. After being honored, maintaining the title is much more difficult.
Hopefully, in addition to Dalat Spring Concert, IB Group and some other units will work with Da Lat city and Lam Dong province's cultural sector to have programs for audiences to come to Da Lat. Hopefully, the first program of international standard will be successful."
The name Dalat Spring Concert means spreading light and will be held in the early days of spring.
Boney M had to change 2 shows to Christmas Day to come to Dalat. Next year maybe Richard Marx or Bryan Adams will perform at Dalat Spring Concert.
