When karaoke becomes a "specialty" of Tet
In recent years, a prominent trend has emerged every Lunar New Year, which is the rise of karaoke music on the trending chart - the top most popular videos on the YouTube platform (updated daily).
In the early days of spring 2025, this music genre continues to dominate in terms of the number of videos and top rankings, even "surpassing" many famous young music names.
According to statistics from YouTube's trending chart on the evening of February 3 (the 6th day of Tet), there were 14 karaoke music videos in the top 30 most popular videos in Vietnam.
If we count videos that were once on top and soon left the charts, the total number of karaoke songs trending during the Tet holiday week could reach nearly 20.
It’s no coincidence that karaoke music dominates YouTube during Tet. At the beginning of the year, when families gather, the happy atmosphere increases the demand for singing.
Karaoke singing has become a familiar entertainment activity from urban to rural areas, from family parties, friends gatherings to small roadside shops. With the development of technology, with just a phone or TV connected to YouTube, anyone can become a singer in their own home.
Romantic karaoke music dominates the trending top
Like previous years, bolero and lyrical songs continue to be searched for and chosen by many people to sing karaoke. Contributing to this year's trending top are familiar names such as: Sau tim thiep hong, Cau chuyen dau nam, Tim em cau vi song Lam...
With the existing popularity of this music genre among middle-aged people - the main characters of home karaoke "stages", plus the slow tempo, familiar melody, easy to remember, easy to sing, it is not difficult to understand why bolero - lyrical is the leading genre in the karaoke race during Tet season.
Not only dominating in quantity, bolero karaoke versions also rank far above many invested products of singers loved by young people such as: Tet "Goy" Wedding "Luong" - a performance of the program Chi dep dap gio 2025 (top 5), Gia Nhu - Tung Duong & SOOBIN (top 7), or a series of songs by "brothers", "beautiful sisters" from music shows, award ceremonies near Tet.
Even the MV marking the return of Jennie - the hottest name in Blackpink with global appeal, had to give in to the invasion of bolero music and only held the top 14.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Lam Oanh, Business Director of BH Media Company - a YouTube channel management service operator with 18 videos in the top trending during Tet 2025 - said: "Every year, our system has videos that are on the trending chart on YouTube during Tet, especially karaoke versions of lyrical music.
However, this year, the number of BH Media videos in the top 18 is probably a rare record. This reflects the tastes of the majority of Vietnamese audiences every time Tet comes.
This is the peak season, the need to satisfy the passion for singing or playing lively spring music in every family has caused the number of searches and views of related videos to increase dramatically in a short time, as recorded by YouTube's algorithm.
As for the producers, Mr. Huynh Le - owner of YouTube channel Karaoke Huynh Le with 3 videos in the top trending - said: "The most important time of the karaoke music market falls in the 12th lunar month. At this time, content creators will focus on producing familiar spring songs that are loved by many people to serve the singing needs during the festival.
The Bolero genre is always our priority because of its gentle, easy-to-sing melody and content that resonates with many people's feelings. Especially, on the 29th and 30th of Tet and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of the lunar calendar, the number of people watching karaoke videos skyrocketed by 80-90% compared to normal days. During the last holiday alone, my karaoke channel received about 35 million views."
Mr. Tran Thanh Ngan - owner of Thanh Ngan Live Music channel - said: "Near Tet, the number of listeners of the channel increases 4 to 5 times compared to normal days, so Tet is a great opportunity for music channels.
Since October, we have been gradually producing. For my channel, the most prominent are still songs about Nghe An, lyrical folk songs, and love for the homeland. Especially, we have to mention "Finding you, the song of Lam river" by A Pao, thanks to this work, our karaoke version has reached the top trending of YouTube."
