Dak Nong has a total agricultural cultivation area of over 309,000 hectares. Of which, the area of industrial crops and perennial crops is over 235,200 hectares, annual crops are nearly 74,000 hectares, and the remaining area is short-term crops.
In recent years, Dak Nong has had more and more farmers, cooperatives, and businesses investing in developing organic agriculture, creating many high-quality products.
Hoang Nguyen Organic Agricultural Cooperative in Thuan Ha Commune, Dak Song District is one of the leading units in developing organic pepper in the country. Right from its establishment in 2018, the Cooperative determined to develop organic pepper.
Mr. Nguyen Cao Nguyen, Deputy Director of the Cooperative, said that Dak Song is a key pepper production area of Dak Nong in particular and Vietnam in general.
About 10 years ago, many farmers produced pepper but abused fertilizers and chemicals, resulting in low product value and unsustainable farming. Faced with this reality, Mr. Nguyen mobilized 21 farmers in the area to join the cooperative to develop organic pepper together.
In 2018, the Cooperative was certified by CONTROL UNION for nearly 18 hectares of pepper meeting organic standards of Europe, the US, and Japan. This is a major turning point for the Cooperative in organic production.
To date, the cooperative has 202 households growing 700 hectares of organic pepper and following the organic direction. Of which, the cooperative has nearly 197 hectares certified as organic according to international standards including: Japan, USA, EU, Canada.
Over the years, members of the cooperative have always sold organic pepper at a price higher than the market price, sometimes twice as high.
Mr. Nguyen Cao Nguyen, Deputy Director of Hoang Nguyen Cooperative, shared: “Organic pepper production requires high costs and takes a lot of work. Therefore, we have provided technical guidance to members and fertilizer production methods to reduce costs. When farmers grow organic pepper, the economic value also increases accordingly, so they strictly follow the production process of the Cooperative.”
Huong Dat Production Trading Service Co., Ltd., Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City has brought organic vegetable growing techniques to Nam Binh Commune, Dak Song District.
The company invested in building nearly 4,000m2 of dome houses and purchased 2,400m2 of land. Each year, the company's vegetable garden in Hung Binh commune supplies the market with over 60 tons and is sold in 50 supermarkets.
Ms. Tran Thi Dung, manager of Nam Binh organic vegetable garden, said that growing organic vegetables requires following the “3 no’s”. That is “no pesticides, no herbicides, no chemical fertilizers”. The yield of organic vegetables grown in Nam Binh is over 10 tons/sao/year.
“Growing organic vegetables has favorable output, the price is always higher than that of normally produced vegetables. The price of the garden supplied to supermarkets is usually from 56,000 - 120,000 VND/kg, depending on the type. Among them, aromatic vegetables have the highest selling price,” Ms. Dung shared.
Mr. Ngo Xuan Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Nong, assessed: In addition to domestic organic certification, Dak Nong also has many products that have achieved organic certification according to American and European standards such as vegetables and fruits. The products have entered the markets of countries that require high organic quality.
Dak Nong has about 1,293 hectares of organic agricultural production, with an estimated output of 2,588 tons of products. Of which, industrial crops account for 1,683 tons; fruit trees account for 653 tons; and food crops account for 252 tons.

Mr. Le Trong Yen, Vice Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee said: Dak Nong encourages farmers, cooperatives, and businesses to invest in developing green agriculture, especially organic agriculture, to increase economic value, protect the environment, and thereby develop sustainably.
In particular, the province creates favorable conditions to attract investment for businesses with potential to invest in agriculture, prioritizing green and organic agriculture.
