According to a VNA correspondent in Germany, within the framework of the world's leading international fair on organic food - Biofach 2025, in Nuremberg city, Bavaria state, on February 11, the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany coordinated with the Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA) to organize a trade and business connection program for 12 Vietnamese organic agricultural product import-export enterprises participating in Biofach with German and European enterprises (B2B program) at the Vietnam pavilion.

Attending the B2B program were Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Phuong, Vietnam Trade Counselor in Germany; Ms. Dang Thi Bich Huong, Vice President of VOAA; Mr. Marco Schlüter, Director of Strategy and International Relations of the German Organic Agriculture Association (Naturland), along with representatives of a number of high-end food businesses from Germany and Europe, including Premium Food Group and Asian food importers in Germany, such as Tran Soan Company Limited.

In an interview with VNA reporters, Ms. Dang Thi Bich Huong, Vice President of VOAA, said that the association has organized a Vietnamese pavilion (Organic of Vietnam) at the Biofach 2025 Fair. Vietnamese organic businesses brought to display at this year's fair more diverse and abundant products than in previous years. In addition to traditional export products such as tea (Bac Ha Company), coffee (FNB Vietnam, Godere Vietnam), spices, cinnamon, star anise, pepper (Manh Cuong Group, Hanfimex Group, Visimex Saigon), cashew nuts (Long Son), there are also new products such as instant salted coffee from Hapii Coffee, coconut nectar products from Sokfarm, disposable plates and food containers made from bio-based materials from Buyo Bioplastics, organic shampoo and shower gel from ONA Global, Co Cay Hoa La... Many Vietnamese products have achieved international certifications such as JAS Control Union Certificattions, Bio Trade, USDA Organic, For Life, GlobalGAP...

Sharing about the German organic food industry and Naturland's activities, Mr. Marco Schlüter, Director of Strategy and International Relations of Naturland, said that the Association is currently present in 60 countries and is quite active in Southeast Asia, especially the Philippines and Vietnam. Over the past 4 years, Naturland has implemented a project to support VOAA in the process of developing strategies and expanding the scope of services for VOAA members. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Mr. Schlüter expressed his pleasure in supporting VOAA and its member businesses to come to Biofach and connect with the world organic industry, in addition to the purpose of promoting the trade of organic agricultural products, the larger purpose is to work together to protect the environment and regenerate the global ecosystem.

Ms. Dang Thi Thanh Phuong, Trade Counselor of Vietnam in Germany, said that trade between Vietnam and Germany has grown continuously over the years. In 2024, according to statistics from Vietnam Customs, bilateral import-export turnover reached 11.7 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported 7.43 billion USD, making it Germany's largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Agricultural exports account for more than 12% of Vietnam's export value to Germany, however, organic products account for a very modest proportion. Vietnam is expanding its organic product growing and production areas while Germany is one of the leading countries in organic production in the world. This is a good opportunity for cooperation in the organic industry between the two sides. Therefore, the Vietnam Trade Office hopes that businesses from both sides will strengthen their connections and seek cooperation opportunities in this field.

The B2B connection program took place in a lively atmosphere with the participation of Vietnamese enterprises and German import-export enterprises as well as enterprises from other countries attending the fair.

Ms. Dang Thi Bich Huong emphasized that Biofach is an important fair for the Vietnamese organic industry, because even in the context of economic difficulties, the consumption of organic products in Germany still increased by 5% in 2024, showing positive signals for Vietnamese organic products to penetrate the German market and other European countries in 2025. She assessed that Vietnamese agricultural products have advantages in Europe because they have special products that Europe does not have, especially spices such as cinnamon, star anise, pepper, etc. Vietnamese organic products are becoming more and more diverse and meeting the requirements of importing countries.

However, the weakness of Vietnamese organic products is that they mainly export raw materials while the proportion of refined products is still low. Vietnamese goods also face many technical barriers when the European Union (EU) tightens regulations on anti-deforestation or requires reporting on carbon emissions, greenhouse gas emissions, etc. All of these requirements increase the costs of businesses, increasing prices and selling prices. According to Ms. Dang Thi Bich Huong, whoever grasps the market first, catches up with new trends, will have a better competitive advantage and can export to the German market and the European market.

Biofach is the world's leading fair for organic food and natural cosmetics. Since 1990, Biofach has been an unmissable destination for pioneers and newcomers to share their passion for organic food and the organic market, and to exchange ideas with like-minded people across the entire value chain. One of the new trends highlighted by this year's exhibition is organic food in foodservice, as eating out of home plays a key role in the ecological transition, helping to put more organic food on tables around the world. This sector has great potential to drive the sustainable transformation of the food system. Biofach 2025 also focuses on vegan food, as it is becoming a growing trend, especially among young people in developed countries. In addition to vegan food, the focus is also on alternative protein sources and wholefood products.

Opening on 11 February and running for four days, Biofach 2025 attracts around 2,300 exhibitors from 94 countries, showcasing the diversity and innovative power of the organic world. The fair also hosts numerous seminars on sustainable solutions and product innovations aimed at transforming the food system towards an ecological one.
