According to Mr. Ta, despite ups and downs, the relationship between the two countries has generally progressed. "Mutual understanding and reconciliation are very important because neither side can bring down the other. China wants a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship between China and the US," Mr. Ta said.
"A conflict between China and the US would be unbearable for both sides and the world. We hope the US will work with China to strengthen cooperation and resolve differences," Mr. Ta said.
According to the South China Morning Post, Mr. Ta had a pleasant approach but the message conveyed by the ambassador was also considered strong.
"Pressure, sanctions, isolation, containment and blockade do not serve this purpose but only bring self-inflicted trouble and require further efforts to resolve undesirable outcomes," Mr. Ta emphasized.
President Xi Jinping affirms commitment to developing relations with the US
He went on to outline four "red lines" in US-China relations: Taiwan, democracy, human rights and China's freedom to develop.
"The Taiwan issue is the most important issue in China-US relations and cannot be overstepped... China's political system and development path are non-negotiable," Mr. Xie affirmed in a video speech at a conference at the Asia Society in New York City (USA).
There is currently no information about the US's reaction to the Chinese ambassador's statement.
