Agricultural economics

Coming out of the two long and fierce wars against France and the US, 116/128 villages in Dai Loc were severely damaged, 8,000 hectares of cultivated land were left uncultivated, full of remaining bombs and mines mixed with barbed wire, bomb craters and reeds.

However, thanks to the successful implementation of the campaigns of "bomb and mine clearance", "grassland attack", "people's irrigation", "land reclamation", just one year after liberation, the cultivated area of Dai Loc district increased from 3,700 hectares to nearly 10,000 hectares.

Mr. Tran Viet Phuong - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dai Loc district said that following the general development trend towards increasing the proportion of industry - construction and trade - services, the agricultural sector currently only accounts for more than 10% of the local economic structure.

However, the breakthrough is that the government and people have innovated their production thinking, responded to the policy of land consolidation, land accumulation associated with irrigation planning, bringing high-quality seeds into production and disease control. In 2024, the whole district will cultivate a total area of 15,543.4 hectares (2 crops), of which rice is 8,441.8 hectares, corn is 1,668.2 hectares with a total output of about 65,944 tons.

Notably, over the past 10 years, production chains have begun to form with the participation of many large corporations, especially in rice seed production.

Up to now, Dai Loc has 17 enterprises associated with localities through cooperatives with a total area of 1,900 hectares, of which 1,700 hectares produce rice seeds, 200 hectares produce corn, green beans, peanuts...

Typically, Dai Thang Agricultural Cooperative cooperates to produce rice seeds with 1,000 households on an area of 175 hectares; or the Agricultural Cooperatives of Ai Nghia, Dai Hiep, Dai Quang, Dai Minh, Dai Thang, Dai Hung, Dai Nghia...

Another bright spot in Dai Loc’s agricultural sector is the garden economy and farm economy. The district currently has 5 large-scale livestock farms; 250 gardens growing bananas, guavas, grapefruits, coconuts, jackfruits and clean vegetables.

Many models of fruit tree planting combined with eco-tourism have been gradually formed. According to Resolution No. 35 of the Provincial People's Council, 75 gardens have been supported with a budget of 2.7 billion VND; documents are being prepared to support 20 more gardens.

Development motivation

Mr. Pham Thuy - Head of the District's Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department said that in the past 10 years, from investment resources from the Central and the province, Dai Loc's infrastructure has been invested synchronously in a modern direction. First of all, we must mention the traffic works connecting the locality with neighboring districts, creating a breakthrough for development.

In 2017, on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Quang Nam Liberation Day and the 20th anniversary of the province's re-establishment, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province inaugurated Giao Thuy bridge across Thu Bon river, creating a new North-South axis including National Highway (QL) 14H - DT609B - QL14B (Nong Son - Duy Xuyen - Dai Loc to Da Nang). Next, Dai Loc received investment in many key projects such as Hoi Khach - Tan Doi bridge; Van Ly bridge and access road; Tay Ai Nghia bypass; DH3.DL Dai An road to the district administrative center...

In particular, two road projects connecting National Highway 14H to Provincial Road 609C and Provincial Road 609C to National Highway 14B, with the highlight being the two bridges Song Thu (over Thu Bon River) and An Binh (over Vu Gia River) have just been technically opened to traffic to celebrate the 50th Liberation Day of Quang Nam Province and the 95th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee.

In recent years, the district has also mobilized resources to upgrade and expand highway routes and build new bridges with a total cost of nearly VND 96.7 billion. With synchronous investment in infrastructure, Dai Loc has been and is the "destination" of 52 domestic and foreign investors, raising the production value of the industrial and construction sector to VND 10,131 billion by the end of 2024 (accounting for 61% of the economic structure).

Mr. Gerd Josef Teufel - General Director of Groz - Beckert Vietnam Company (German enterprise) said that choosing to invest in Dai An Industrial Park (Ai Nghia town) is the right decision.

On a total area of over 16.1 hectares leased by the State, the company started building the factory in 2008 and officially came into operation in 2010. Up to now, the company has built 2 factories, with wastewater and exhaust gas treatment systems, and solar power to produce industrial metals for the garment industry; creating jobs for 930 workers, of which 90% are from Dai Loc.

Mr. Le Do Tuan Khuong - Vice Chairman of Dai Loc District People's Committee said that by promoting existing potentials and advantages and taking advantage of and effectively using resources, Dai Loc's economy has clearly changed, and people's lives have been improved. By the end of 2024, the district's total state budget revenue reached more than 1,396 billion VND, of which revenue from economic activities was nearly 232 billion VND; average income per capita reached 58.8 million VND.

“Building the homeland, Dai Loc has been honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and the State. Among them, Dai Dong 2 Agricultural Cooperative and Dai Hiep Cooperative were awarded the title of Labor Hero; the district armed forces were awarded the title of Armed Forces Hero in the period of national renewal; the cadres and people of Dai Loc district were awarded the First Class Labor Medal. This is a worthy continuation of the glorious tradition of the heroic homeland, becoming a great honor and source of encouragement for cadres and people to enter the era of national development,” said Mr. Khuong.

Mr. Mai Anh Son - Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Dai Loc district said that the locality has 27 relics ranked as provincial relics, 1 national intangible cultural heritage (Ba Phuong Chao Traditional Festival) and 4 national historical relics (Thuong Duc Victory site, Phu An - Phu Xuan tunnel, the place where the anti-tax movement in 1908 in the Central region started at Phiem Ai communal house and Mr. Nghe Tiep's house, and Do Dang Tuyen's tomb).
