Ready to enter a new era with the whole country

(NLDO) - The city's mission, responsibility and political determination is to join the country and people in strongly entering the new era.

On the morning of December 23, the Advisory Council for the implementation of Resolution 98/2023 of Ho Chi Minh City and the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies organized a scientific workshop on the New Era, the Era of the Vietnamese Nation's Rise - Issues for Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast. The workshop was attended by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai and leading experts and scientists.

"Starting lineup and playing as a striker"

In his opening speech at the workshop, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee raised the issue of where the city will be in this journey as the country and people enter a new era. This question aims to clarify the mission and responsibility of Ho Chi Minh City in the coming time.

"We have determined that Ho Chi Minh City must be in the main squad and must play as a striker" - Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said and informed that the city does not do this alone but must put it in the context of the Southeast region and the Southern Key Economic Zone. Mr. Phan Van Mai emphasized that the city's mission, responsibility, and political determination is to join the country and the people in strongly stepping into the new era. According to the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, recently, new terms such as the 4.0 industrial revolution, digital transformation, green transformation, digital economy have been mentioned many times. However, the connotations, focus, steps, and roadmap to achieve the above results are still unclear. Therefore, when referring to the new era, it is important to identify the connotations, focus, pillars, roadmap, and results achieved according to each time period. From there, the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that experts and scientists will help the locality analyze these contents clearly. "There are things we need to do immediately to create a foundation, there are strategic things that need to be done in the long term. Once this issue is clearly identified, the way to implement, coordinate, and organize resources is also very important" - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee expressed. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that the city always puts itself in the general context of the Southeast and the Southern Key Economic Zone, wishing to cooperate with localities and forces to carry out this mission. The city also takes on the task of being a bridge in international cooperation, mobilizing resources to carry out work, preparing for the new era.

Realize potential, opportunities and challenges

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Truong Minh Huy Vu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies, acknowledged that the city and the Southeast region are the places that most clearly feel the strong movement in preparing to enter a new era.

Ho Chi Minh City leaders are also well aware of the potential, opportunities and challenges to be faced. During the past term, Ho Chi Minh City has prepared important premises to enter a new phase. Before 2023, Ho Chi Minh City did not have any belts and in the next 5 years, the locality will complete Belt Line 2, build Belt Line 3 and prepare to submit the Belt Line 4 project. Recently, the city also commercially exploited Metro Line 1 and prepared to complete the remaining 7 metro lines. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City also needs to solve the problem of eliminating all houses on and along canals and ditches; carry out digital transformation, mobilize domestic and foreign experts and scientists, and connect with the world's leading institutes and universities. The above preparations show that Ho Chi Minh City is focusing on the Southeast region to prepare for this phase. Mr. Truong Minh Huy Vu said that the conference received more than 70 presentations from experts, scientists, and state management agencies. This is a valuable source of documents to clearly understand the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise, in the context of Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast region for each specific field. In which, the theoretical and practical basis content is outlined through 7 strategic orientations to bring the country into the era of rise, based on international experience, management science and modern economics. From there, the opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to realize its development aspirations is clearly recognized; with many proposed solutions to remove bottlenecks in infrastructure, investment environment, etc. At the same time, a number of implementation principles that need to be prioritized for the city and the Southeast region are identified to meet the requirements set forth in the new context.
