On April 6, the Da Nang Department of Health informed that the city recorded cases of suspected measles rash fever and isolated measles cases since the end of 2024 and these cases have tended to increase continuously since February 2025.
Since the beginning of the year, the entire city has had 3,700 suspected measles cases, of which 973 cases tested positive for measles, accounting for more than 83% of the cases tested.
At medical examination and treatment facilities, the number of cases has also increased and remained high, with about 550 suspected measles cases and inpatient measles cases in March; currently, there are 317 patients being treated, including 21 severe cases.
Among the measles positive cases, up to 58.6% of patients were children of age but had not received enough measles vaccine doses, and 8.5% of patients had received 2 doses of measles vaccine.
In terms of age, 12.7% of patients were under 9 months old, 16.5% of patients were from 9 to 24 months old, 21.8% of patients were from 2 to 5 years old; 27.2% of patients were from 5 to 11 years old and 21.7% of patients were over 11 years old; 57.1% of patients were school-age children.
Following the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Health, on March 25, Da Nang urgently coordinated with sectors and localities to deploy a measles vaccination campaign in 47/47 communes and wards. At the end of the campaign (March 31), 21,560 children aged 6-9 months and children aged 1-10 who had not received 2 doses of measles vaccine were given additional vaccinations, reaching a rate of 96.23%, of which 5,909 children received service vaccinations.
Some children were eligible for vaccination during the campaign, but were not vaccinated due to contraindications (7 children) or had to postpone vaccination due to illnesses and health conditions (479 children).
Currently, the health sector has implemented treatment stratification activities based on the level and condition of the patient; reviewed and increased resources, supplemented conditions to ensure medical examination and treatment, infection control, and infection prevention at hospitals, especially in reception areas, medical examination registration, waiting areas, medical examination, testing, and inpatient treatment areas.
The Da Nang City Department of Health confirmed that the current medical examination and treatment system is capable of responding to the measles situation.
In addition to performing regular medical examination and treatment tasks as assigned, medical examination and treatment facilities have arranged 650-700 inpatient beds for suspected measles and measles patients and about 30 beds for treating severe measles patients; human resources, equipment, medicine and medical supplies for measles treatment are guaranteed.
