Da Nang, April 1975, the war was over, the work of rebuilding the homeland was quickly deployed. Overcoming difficulties, starting to restore production, Da Nang creatively applied the Party's innovation policy to the specific circumstances of the locality.
As a result, in the period 1986-1996, the economy grew at an average of 8.15% per year, with the total social product in 1996 reaching 2,298 billion VND, 2.4 times higher than in 1985.
On January 1, 1997, Quang Nam - Da Nang province was separated, Da Nang became a centrally-governed city. More than 3 years later, on March 29, 2000, Da Nang inaugurated and put into use the Han River bridge connecting the East and West banks.
The total investment capital of the project is 95 billion VND, of which the business community and city residents contributed more than 7 billion VND... The shabby, makeshift images of hundreds of stilt houses on the East bank of the Han River are gradually fading into the past, giving way to spacious new streets and international-class coastal tourist areas.
From a place with its back to the sea, Da Nang has started to rebuild the city to have two sea fronts, and make the Han River more and more sparkling.
At that time, the urban planning, renovation and development were carried out strongly and resolutely, with the policy of "exploiting land funds to create capital sources for infrastructure development", following the motto "the state and the people work together"...
More than 110,000 households agreed to relocate and clear land so that the city can rearrange urban space...
After the Han River Bridge – the symbol of “Party’s Will – People’s Heart”, a series of other bridges have connected the two banks… and Da Nang is now known to domestic and international friends as the city of bridges.
In particular, the annual International Fireworks Festival – a unique brand of Da Nang – has lit up the night sky; contributing to making the city become Asia's leading destination for events and festivals.
After being recognized as a national first-class urban area in 2003, Da Nang also started implementing Resolution 33 of the Politburo. For a new urban area like Da Nang, it is like a "treasured sword" that helps the city take a new step forward and affirm its brand. Notably, by 2018:
- Da Nang's urban space increased to nearly 20 thousand hectares, 3 times more than in 2003.
- The economy grew at an average of 9.8% per year and the value in 2018 increased 4.2 times compared to 2003, reaching 63,960 billion VND.
- GRDP per capita increased nearly 7 times, reaching 82.8 million VND.
- The programs of "5 no" city, "3 yes" city, "4 safe" city, with outstanding humanity have become their own unique brand...
Immediately after Resolution 33, the Politburo also issued Resolution 43 and Conclusion 79 on the development of Da Nang and the city. The National Assembly also successively issued Resolutions 119 and 136 with many specific mechanisms and policies with the expectation that Da Nang will create new breakthroughs. In particular, the pilot establishment of a Free Trade Zone associated with Lien Chieu seaport and the formation of a regional financial center is unprecedented.
By the end of 2024, the city's economic scale will reach more than 151,300 billion VND. The average gross social product per capita will be more than 4,700 USD/person. The total state budget revenue will reach 27,285 billion VND, exceeding the estimate by more than 41%. To create momentum for the new journey, in 2025, Da Nang sets a double-digit growth target. The total budget revenue must reach over 30 trillion VND...
Many large projects have been and will be started with a total investment of more than 150,000 billion VND...
Half a century after the liberation of the homeland, Da Nang has written a proud story with miraculous changes.
Faced with new opportunities, Da Nang people will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, arouse the desire for development, and be determined to create new breakthroughs in a sustainable direction, joining the whole country in entering a new stage./.
