Statistics on the afternoon of December 23 from online booking platform Agoda showed that Da Lat was the destination most booked by domestic tourists during the period of January 29-February 2 (the first and fifth days of Tet); followed by Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc, Da Nang and Sa Pa.
Business data from Vietnam Tourism also shows that the domestic tourism trend this year during Tet is car trips from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot or Kon Tum as well as the Western provinces. Currently, car tours have a 30-40% higher registration rate than the same period last year; while air tours have reached about 50% of the plan.
"High-speed routes help shorten travel time and make it more convenient for customers," said Deputy General Director Pham Anh Vu. The company is currently planning to import services for additional car tours, but is facing difficulties because the number of rooms on the market is "holding" too much.
Meanwhile, data from the booking platform for agents Mustgo with more than 2,000 hotel partners nationwide shows that Da Lat is the destination with the highest potential for full rooms during the Lunar New Year. On online booking sites, Da Lat leads the list of most favorite destinations for domestic tourists with a 300% growth in searches compared to last year.
The hottest period falls on January 30-February 1 (the 2nd to 4th day of Tet) and many hotels are fully booked during this time. The 3-star segment in Da Lat is currently at about 60% occupancy, the 4-5 star segment is from 50% to 60%. During the Lunar New Year, some hotels in Da Lat will require a mandatory meal when booking a room - showing the special interest of Vietnamese guests in the destination.
Destinations near big cities such as Sa Pa, Phan Thiet, Ho Tram, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh are also included by Mustgo in the "key" list of Lunar New Year with room occupancy of 50-70%, especially from the 2nd to the 5th with the main number of guests from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and some neighboring provinces.
Mustgo's Head of Product Development Tran Quoc Hung advises travelers to book one month in advance at key tourist destinations as occupancy rates are increasing rapidly.
In addition to the above destinations, Phu Quoc also achieved very high room occupancy rates thanks to a large number of international visitors from Russia, South Korea and some European countries. Data from Agoda also shows that Phu Quoc is the most booked destination by international visitors during the Lunar New Year period.
In Phu Quoc, the 5-star segment has an average occupancy rate of 85%, and some establishments have stopped selling early. Wyndham, with more than 1,000 rooms, has also stopped selling on some public holidays. Meanwhile, the central 4-star segment is almost fully booked on public holidays; villas and resorts in the South of the island are currently at over 70% occupancy.
Da Nang is expected to be fully booked during the New Year holiday, but the current Lunar New Year room occupancy rate is only 20-30% for all segments. There are many empty hotels, including low-cost rooms. In the resort area with private beaches, Mustgo recorded 90% of establishments waiving Tet surcharges, even offering 10% discounts for early bookings. Quy Nhon recorded room occupancy rates ranging from 15-20% with mainly domestic guests, with almost no establishments charging holiday surcharges.
According to a representative of Du Lich Viet, the room occupancy rate may change due to the trend of last-minute bookings by Vietnamese guests. Lunar New Year is a major holiday after Vietnamese guests mostly skipped the New Year holiday.
