On May 2, Mr. Tang Quoc Lap, Vice Chairman of Long Khanh City People's Committee, said that local authorities are verifying the case of hundreds of people showing symptoms of vomiting, stomachache... having to be hospitalized after eating bread at shop B.
The patients who vomited and were admitted to the hospital all ate sandwiches at shop B.
According to Mr. Lap, people ate bread at shop B (Tran Xuan Dieu, quarter 2, Xuan Binh ward) on April 30. About 4 to 10 hours after eating, they experienced stomachache, vomiting, and diarrhea...
The bakery owner said that on average, the shop sells about 1,000 loaves of bread a day, and on April 30, it sold 1,100 loaves. These include meat sandwiches, ham, pate, cilantro, cucumber, pickles, white radish, sauces... all of which the shop buys its own ingredients to prepare.
According to records, from the morning of May 1 to May 2, 222 people came to the hospital for examination and treatment.
Up to now, there are still 160 cases being treated at Long Khanh Hospital, 13 cases being treated at Cao Su Hospital, and a 7-year-old child with septic shock being treated at Dong Nai Children's Hospital.
According to Mr. Lap, after receiving the information, the city leaders directed the health sector and police to investigate and handle the case.
At the same time, Long Khanh Regional General Hospital, Dong Nai Rubber Hospital... are requested to focus on treating the patients. In addition, the Department of Health and the Medical Center are also directed to report and request the Dong Nai Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department to coordinate in testing samples, investigating and concluding the case.
Many children also had stomachaches, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating B bread.
Initially, through investigation, the authorities determined: bakery B sells small retail products and is not eligible for a food safety certificate.
The shop has 4 employees serving bread but none of them have regular health check-ups. The shop processes the ingredients and food themselves from sources purchased from small retail stores, without a contract to purchase input materials.
The city's interdisciplinary inspection team sealed the freezer and forced the facility to stop operating from 11am on May 1. The inspection results from the authorities are still pending.
