On March 13, according to news from Vung Tau Hospital (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), doctors at the hospital just performed surgery to save the life of a 14-year-old boy named NNVA (living in Vung Tau) who had a punctured heart and lung.
Earlier on the morning of March 12, child A was taken to the emergency room in critical condition.
The surgery was successful and the 14-year-old girl's health is now gradually stabilizing.
Immediately after that, the hospital activated the red alert to mobilize doctors and nurses from all departments and rooms in the hospital. Upon examination, the doctor discovered that the child had a wound about 3cm under the left collarbone, the wound size was about 1.5cm penetrating into the chest.
Echocardiography showed that the patient had a large amount of pericardial effusion, causing cardiac tamponade and a heart wound was noted.
The surgical team had to release the pericardium to remove the hematoma, suture the heart wound, check the back to see no further damage, suture the lung hole, stop the bleeding, drain the left pleural cavity, and perform cardiac resuscitation.
Patient A lost about 1 liter of blood, so the surgery lasted nearly 3 hours and required the patient to be transfused with two units of packed red blood cells and two units of plasma.
After the surgery, A's health is currently improving, with stable vital signs. The patient is being monitored at the hospital's Intensive Care and Poison Control Department.
Regarding the case of child A having a perforated heart and having to be hospitalized, local police are verifying the cause.
