The Representative Board of Phu Tho - Polytechnic Alumni Community (University of Technology - Ho Chi Minh City National University) continues to implement the loan guarantee and interest support program for students paying tuition fees.
Students are given loans for up to 2 years, 0% interest to pay tuition fees.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - Vietnam National University has just announced a loan guarantee and interest support program for students paying tuition fees for semester 242 of the Phu Tho - Bach Khoa Alumni Community Representative Board (BKA) to support the school's students.
This program is implemented through a bank sponsored by BKA for students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - Vietnam National University to borrow at 0% interest rate.
According to the BKA Office, the program's participants are students studying the standard program, the talent program, the advanced program, the Vietnam-France high-quality engineering program (PFIEV), the English-taught program, and the Japan-oriented program of the University of Technology - Ho Chi Minh City National University.
Maximum loan term is 2 years, reviewed once per semester based on student's academic performance: for students in year 1, 2, 3, loan term is 2 years from disbursement; for students in year 4, loan term is 1 year from disbursement.
Students are obligated to repay the loan within 30 days of the decision to withdraw from school or to graduate from school before the due date. Students may repay the loan early.
"The loan amount is based on the school's tuition fees and is disbursed for each semester. BKA only considers loan guarantees for tuition fees for the main semester (semester 1, semester 2), not loans for summer semester, auditing, English for needs, and graduate school," said a representative of the BKA Office.
Loan guarantee conditions, converting loans into scholarships
The program will prioritize students in difficult circumstances, who have not borrowed from other credit institutions and have a clear loan repayment plan.
For first-year students (K24): have a cumulative GPA of 2.0/4.0 or higher, have a clear loan repayment plan.
For students in years 2, 3, 4 (from course K23 and earlier): have a cumulative GPA of 5.0/10 or 2.0/4.0 or higher, have a most recent training score of 80/100 or higher.
In particular, students borrowing capital from this program also have the opportunity to convert the loan into a scholarship, if they meet the following conditions: the student has paid off the loan and interest to the bank; has an average semester score in the loan semester and the next semester from 8.0/10 or 3.2/4.0 or higher (for example: if you register to borrow for semester 231, you will get the score for semester 231 and semester 232); has a training score in the loan semester from 90/100 or higher (for example: if you register to borrow for semester 231, you will get the score for the 2023-2024 school year).
Students will be considered for scholarships of 50-100% of the loan depending on the student's efforts and the program's budget.
OISP students apply by March 15, students of other programs by April 20. Priority is given to students who register early.
Students who register for the program will have their tuition payment extended while waiting for BKA to compile and review their applications.
Support 1,000 interest-free loans/semester
According to Mr. Tran Ba Duong, Chairman of BKA for the 2024-2028 term, BKA's operating plan for the next term includes many great support policies for students and schools.
In the past 241 semesters, BKA's loan guarantee and interest support program for students paying tuition fees guaranteed 406 loans with a total cost of VND 9,140 billion.
Notably, 6 students met the conditions to convert their loans into scholarships, including 5 scholarships worth 100% of the loan and 1 scholarship worth 50% of the loan.
"The fund supports students with 0% interest loans with the view of building a spirit of independence for students and not letting their studies be affected by tuition fees. In the second term, we will continue to implement and expand the loan target with the goal of 1,000 loans/semester, totaling over 15 billion VND," Mr. Duong added.
