The 10th grade exam in 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6-7. Candidates will take the exam in three subjects: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language. Candidates will take the exam in three subjects: Math and Literature in 120 minutes each; Foreign Language in 90 minutes.
Candidates registering for the entrance exam to specialized high schools in the city must take the fourth subject (specialized subject) with a duration of 150 minutes/subject. Each specialized subject has its own exam according to the secondary school curriculum, the exam content ensures the selection of students with talent in that specialized subject.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 88,535 ninth graders studying at public secondary schools. Of which, Thu Duc City has the highest number of ninth graders with 10,975 students. Binh Tan District is second with 6,580 students. Hoc Mon District is third with 6,396 students. Go Vap, Binh Chanh, and Cu Chi districts each have about 5,500 students.
Compared to the 2023-2024 school year, the number of ninth graders this year has decreased by about 28,000 students. In each district, the average decrease is 20-30% compared to last year.
According to the roadmap from the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will stop organizing specialized classes in 4 high schools including: Gia Dinh, Mac Dinh Chi, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Nguyen Huu Huan.
Thus, from the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will only have two specialized schools: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School.
Ho Chi Minh City is the first locality to finalize the schedule and plan for the 10th grade exam, after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the regulations for middle school and high school admissions on January 8.
Accordingly, localities can choose to conduct entrance exams, admission to grade 10 or a combination. If an exam is organized, the exam will include Math, Literature and a third subject (or a combined exam). This subject is selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, including: Foreign Language 1, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, and Information Technology.
Last year, the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City had more than 98,000 candidates, about 77,300 of whom passed.
