The 10th grade public entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year will take place on June 6-7 with three subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language; the 6th grade public entrance exam will be based on many criteria.
On February 6, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced information about the 10th grade entrance exam and junior high school entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
The 10th grade public entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year will take place on June 6-7 with 3 subjects including Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject) and Foreign Language (90 minutes).
Candidates registering for entrance exams to specialized high schools must take the 4th subject (specialized subject) with a duration of 150 minutes/subject.
Public grade 6 admission will be conducted by multiple criteria. Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School and some other secondary schools with a number of applicants exceeding the enrollment quota can conduct admission based on a combination of two criteria including training and learning results in primary school years and the results of the capacity assessment survey.
The remaining secondary schools conduct admission based on the results of training and learning at the primary level and use data from GIS maps to allocate study places to students depending on the actual situation in the area.
Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a Circular on the Regulations on Admission to Junior High School and High School, applicable from 2025, with many new points to match the content of the 2018 General Education Program. Of which, two notable contents are the selection of a third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam and the admission to grade 6 by examination only.
Specifically, with the 10th grade entrance exam method, the exam will include 3 subjects and the choice of the 3rd subject (in addition to the 2 common subjects of Math and Literature) will be chosen by the locality (among the subjects assessed by scores); at the same time, it must be ensured that the same 3rd subject is not chosen for more than three consecutive years.
For grade 6 admission, the content of the Regulation only includes the form of admission without mentioning the testing and assessment of capacity as in the previous Regulation. The admission criteria are specifically guided by the Department of Education and Training, ensuring that the admission is fair, objective, transparent, and suitable to the actual situation in the locality.
Many parents and students are looking forward to official information about the entrance exam for these two levels; especially the selection of the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam and whether some "hot" schools will also organize capacity assessments to enroll 6th graders.
