A US veteran in New Hampshire has admitted to pretending to have impaired function in both legs for the past 20 years and using a wheelchair to receive benefits, after he was discovered walking normally.
Veteran Christopher Stultz (49 years old) admitted to lying to the US Department of Veterans Affairs in 2003 to receive 100% disability benefits, benefiting more than 660,000 USD (16.24 billion VND).
In January 2003, the veteran reported that he had lost the use of both legs after being discharged from the military. The allowance for this type of veteran ranges from $3,800 to $4,200 per month and varies from year to year.
The veteran also received money from a unit under the Department of Veterans Affairs to purchase "special vehicles and equipment to help veterans with reduced mobility adapt."
Authorities allege that Mr. Stultz, now a kindergarten teacher, received $662,871.77 from January 2003 to December 2022. Before being exposed, the veteran was spotted several times walking around without a wheelchair.
In October 2022, the veteran was caught on camera walking around normally at a VA facility. During questioning, Mr. Stultz admitted that he had the use of both legs and had received benefits incorrectly.
Mr. Stultz was indicted on September 13, 2023, for perjury and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 6, with a sentence of up to five years in prison and three years of supervised release. He may also be required to repay any benefits he received through fraud.
