The project "Supporting women to start a business" aims to raise women's awareness of the Party and State's policies and laws on start-ups, promote the realization of business ideas, contribute to the implementation of national goals on enterprise development and the National Strategy on gender equality. To achieve that goal, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Women's Union has directed and implemented the project focusing on activities to support women in innovation, start-ups, and business start-ups to arouse the spirit of entrepreneurship, creativity, promote women's strengths and capabilities and create the best opportunities for women to promote their internal strength, create jobs, and develop the economy.
To raise awareness of employment and entrepreneurship for women, the Women's Union at all levels has carried out propaganda activities on the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State on entrepreneurship and business development; the role and position of women in economic development. The Provincial Women's Union has built a column on women starting businesses, introducing typical examples of women starting businesses, starting businesses, and women doing good business on the information page, fanpage of the Union, and promoting on social networks.
In addition, the Union at all levels has been directed to directly disseminate through group activities, clubs, and the Union's operating models the contents of the Project and policies to support women in starting a business; compile and publish 2,000 books on creative business start-up guidelines for women and 1,000 leaflets on start-ups, distributed to 100% of the Union's bases in the province; coordinate with the Cooperative Union to continue to disseminate and effectively implement the Law on Cooperatives in 2012 and 2023, and mobilize female members to actively participate in collective economic development. Thereby, over 123,000 female members at all levels (70% of the total number of members in the province) have been disseminated and their awareness about employment and start-ups has been raised.
In particular, activities to support women in innovation, business development and entrepreneurship have accompanied many women on the path to entrepreneurship and business start-up. The "Women's Entrepreneurship" Festival and the "Women's Entrepreneurship" Competition at all levels of the Women's Union over the years have aroused the spirit of entrepreneurship, business start-up, and creativity of women; at the same time, connecting businesses and cooperatives owned by women.
During the period 2017 - 2025, 121 ideas of women in the province participated in the "Women's Entrepreneurship" Contest organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and 14 ideas were selected for the regional round, of which 3 ideas entered the final round to be honored and awarded with a total value of over 500 million VND to implement the startup ideas. The Provincial Women's Union organized 2 "Women's Entrepreneurship Ideas" Contests at the provincial level; on the basis of the winning ideas, continued to integrate resources to support the realization of startup ideas.
Ms. Ly Thi Ninh - Director of the Mong Style Traditional Brocade Cooperative in Che Cu Nha Commune (Mu Cang Chai) shared: "In 2020, the Cooperative was only a Mong Traditional Brocade Weaving Cooperative. As the Head of the Cooperative, I was selected by the Provincial Women's Union to participate in the "Women's Entrepreneurship" Contest of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union with the theme "Women's Entrepreneurship - Connecting Success" and won the "Social Impact Contributing to Sustainable Poverty Reduction" award with a prize of nearly 400 million VND. That award equipped our Cooperative with 1 fabric creasing machine and 5 industrial sewing machines to serve women in the production process. Thanks to that, the income of the members of the cooperative was increased, an average of 5 - 7 million VND/member/month, creating more motivation for the Cooperative to develop into a Cooperative as it is today".
In supporting women to innovate and develop business and start-ups, capacity building activities for cooperatives, cooperative groups, and newly established women's enterprises are very meaningful and practical activities. The Provincial Women's Union has chaired the organization of 32 training courses for over 1,500 women who are managers, members of enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and women with ideas to start a business, start a business, knowledge about starting a business, starting a business, skills to promote, introduce products, build brands, labels for products, support policies of the Central and the province for enterprises, cooperatives, etc.
Thereby, helping many women who are owners of cooperatives, cooperative groups and businesses gain more knowledge to be confident in managing, operating and developing production and business establishments, and women with ideas to start a business and start a business will be more confident in realizing their ideas.
The Provincial Women's Union commended outstanding individuals in implementing Project 939 at the recent Project Summary Conference.
During the implementation of Project 939, the Provincial Women's Union also strengthened international cooperation, mobilized resources to implement the Project Plan, including surveying, proposing and mobilizing 18 projects and non-governmental aid to support livelihood models for women members to enhance economic empowerment, improve knowledge to solve social issues, improve capacity for Union staff at all levels with a total budget of over 50 billion VND; coordinated the implementation of other credit programs jointly organized and implemented by the Union, disbursed over 3 billion VND of capital from non-governmental organizations to 311 poor women's households for economic development loans... contributing to increasing the effectiveness of the Project implementation.
After 9 years of implementing Project 939, 2,230 women have been supported to start businesses and start businesses; coordinated and supported the establishment of 1,027 cooperatives, 55 cooperatives managed by women. Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union Nguyen Thi Bich Nhiem said: "The Women's Union at all levels has coordinated with the Cooperative Alliance, local Party committees and authorities to discover typical examples of women who are good at economics, propagate, advise and support the establishment of cooperatives and cooperatives led by women. Up to now, cooperatives and cooperatives have been operating effectively, helping women have stable jobs with an average income of 3 - 5 million VND/person/month".
In addition, the Association at all levels has paid attention to assigning annual planning targets, organizing propaganda, mobilizing, supporting and consulting on the establishment of 37 new businesses owned by women.
Speaking about the effectiveness of the Project, Chairwoman of the Provincial Women's Union Nguyen Thi Bich Nhiem affirmed: "Activities to support women in starting businesses and starting businesses have received positive responses from female cadres and members at all levels. Basically achieving and exceeding the planned targets, the Project has created a breakthrough in thinking and methods of implementing activities to support women in starting businesses and developing businesses in the new period. Through propaganda activities, supporting women in starting businesses, starting businesses, high-income economic development models, the "Women's Startup Ideas" Contest, trade promotion exchange programs... have created widespread emulation movements among cadres and members, helping women to be more confident in starting businesses, starting businesses, developing the economy, strongly rising up, and taking control of their lives".
