Exposed in the middle of the training ground, the green color of the grass seems to soften the feeling of the sun and heat of each young soldier who is always present in the air defense battlefield. To have the green color covering all the fortifications and posts, each Youth Union of the 4th Regiment had the initiative to choose the bear grass variety (a type of grass that spreads quickly and can withstand barren land) to plant.
However, the grass planting work must also be calculated in accordance with the overall planning of the site so that the fortification area and guard post are both beautiful, scientific, reasonable in care and combat readiness training without affecting the grass.
Every day, when going to the fortifications or outposts, each soldier takes the time to carry water to water the grass carefully before changing shifts. It is a little more difficult, but looking at the cool beauty of the green grass, everyone feels happy and tries to take care of it.
Major Pham Tuan Anh, Political Commissar of Battalion 1, excitedly shared: “To have the current landscape is a great effort of the unit’s officers and soldiers. Every time the unit has a group of visitors, we are very excited and admire the efforts of the battalion’s soldiers to overcome difficulties.”
Years ago, this place was a rugged terrain, barren land. Along with that was the harsh weather when the rainy season, the dry season was hot, the land was hard, the trees were barren.
Faced with that situation, with the orientation of planning the barracks system according to the criteria of "Basic, unified, reasonable, clearly defining the functions of each type, suitable to the characteristics, requirements and tasks of the unit", the Battalion has actively exploited and effectively used local resources in the work of building landscapes and improving the surrounding environment.
With the attention and direction of the commanders, the unit mobilized thousands of working days of officers and soldiers to improve thousands of square meters of land and repair the water system. Along with that, the logistics department advised the commander to choose ornamental plants and fruit trees that provide good shade, high quality fruit, and are suitable for the climate and soil.
Units proactively collect flower varieties that are suitable for withstanding drought. At the same time, assign comrades who are knowledgeable and experienced in taking care of flower beds and ornamental plants.
“Seeing that the unit has many beautiful ornamental plants, we know that previous generations of soldiers have put a lot of effort into taking care of them, so we feel we have the responsibility to make the unit more beautiful,” said Private La Anh Tuan, a soldier of Company 8, Battalion 2, Regiment 4.
From the models of the 4th Regiment, the units in the Division organized visits, learned from experience, and followed suit. "Green Fortification" - Youth work of the 4th Regiment's youth is truly one of the practical actions demonstrating the initiative and creativity, contributing to the successful implementation of the Regiment's central political task: Good training, strict discipline, ready to fight and fight victoriously in all situations.
