In response to the information that many candidates are participating in "training centers" to assess their abilities and thinking in many places, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thao - Director of the Examination Center of Hanoi National University - emphasized that exam preparation is necessary, and that candidates need to have a serious exam preparation plan for any exam. However, exam preparation will only be suitable for the core exams, exams with 1-2 questions.
As for standardized tests such as ability assessment, thinking assessment, the way of making test questions and the number of questions will follow the output standards of the high school program, without declaring any limits or omitting any parts.
The exam is only divided according to the structure ratio, with 70% for grade 12, 20% for grade 11 and 10% for grade 10. The exam ensures the structure, matrix and appearance ratio in the exam. Therefore, if candidates practice or study lopsidedly, they will have difficulty meeting the standardized exams.
"Exam preparation is very risky. This time a candidate may be able to do the test but the next time he may not be able to do it; this candidate may be able to do the test but another candidate may not.
The competency assessment test does not have a common formula for all candidates, while most people who take the test study a common formula, a common format, and a common model," Mr. Thao explained.
Mr. Thao advised candidates to spend time reviewing and systematizing their knowledge. The sample test, the structure of the test, and the detailed outline of the competency assessment tests have all been announced. Candidates should at least read through them and see which parts are weak in order to strengthen their review.
"Candidates should spend time focusing on studying well, taking the test once to get a high score, taking the test many times will not change the score, just solve the psychological problem. When candidates have the mentality of taking the first test and the second real test, the score may be lower than if they were determined to take the real test the first time," said Mr. Thao.

In addition, many candidates rushed to register for the exam without learning about the ability assessment test. According to Mr. Thao, this is a shortcoming, and candidates need to review it.
Mr. Thao advises candidates that when they want to take an exam, they must carefully study the structure of the exam, how the questions are asked, what content the exam asks, how the ability is assessed, etc. so that they can proactively review and achieve high results.
Don't ignore other admission methods
In 2024, about 90 higher education institutions will use the results of the Hanoi National University's HSA exam for university admission, of which this year is the first year that 17 military schools will use the results of this exam.
According to Mr. Thao, the rate of universities using the HSA exam for university admission increased by about 20 schools compared to last year, but the rate of admission based on the ability assessment method of each school will be different, some schools reserve 5%, 10%, or 30%...
"Most universities that use the admission method of competency assessment and thinking assessment still reserve a relatively large proportion for the high school graduation exam.
The admission rate when considering the high school graduation exam every year is very high, so candidates need to pay attention, avoid focusing only on the ability assessment test and ignore other admission methods, leading to missed opportunities to be admitted," said Mr. Thao.
