In particular, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has actively coordinated with multinational corporations and large FDI enterprises in Vietnam to implement many activities to improve production, enhance competitiveness and quality of human resources, digital transformation, and cooperate in developing smart factories for Vietnamese industrial enterprises.
These support programs have been bringing positive signals to Vietnamese enterprises, creating widespread influence, helping domestic enterprises increase development opportunities and participate more deeply in the global supply chain.
Sharing at the Seminar, Mr. Chu Viet Cuong, Director of the Center for Industrial Development Support, Department of Industry (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that recently, the Department of Industry has regularly organized activities to support industrial enterprises, especially supporting industrial enterprises, in applying models of digital transformation and developing smart factories, with the aim of supporting industrial enterprises to improve their capacity and optimize the production process, meeting the supply chain and competitive chain globally.
Specifically, the Industrial Development Support Center (IDC) has coordinated with leading FDI enterprises such as Samsung, Toyota, etc. to support enterprises in applying digital transformation to the production process. Every year, IDC also builds databases on industrial and supporting industry enterprises, with the aim of helping enterprises approach, learn, search for each other, and learn from each other in applying digital transformation and smart factory models in the production process.
“ In particular, in 2023, the Department of Industry coordinated with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to publish a digital transformation assessment tool, which also includes a lot of content, from assessing people, business culture, security and sustainability, ” said Mr. Chu Viet Cuong.
Currently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has been implementing many cooperation programs with large corporations such as Samsung and Toyota to train experts and support businesses in applying the smart factory model. In the period of 2022-2023, 124 experts were trained and 36 businesses were supported in applying digital transformation at factories...
Despite the huge opportunities, Vietnamese enterprises still face many difficulties in the digital transformation journey. Mr. Tran Kien Dung, ILO expert, Director of ProfM Vietnam Co., Ltd. expressed: "If enterprises do not catch up with this trend, they will be like a warrior carrying a dagger facing an elite army. Digital transformation is not just an option, but an inevitable need."
Some businesses have achieved impressive results thanks to digital transformation; Mr. Tran Duc Tung, Deputy General Director of Hanel PT shared that the company has invested heavily in automation and process transformation since 2017, helping sales grow by up to 300%. "We have increased the automation rate to 60% and are continuing to aim for 80% to meet smart manufacturing standards," Mr. Tran Duc Tung informed.
AMA Holdings is also a typical example of successfully applying digital platforms to the entire production process. "We can monitor the entire process from input materials to finished products in real time, bringing efficiency beyond expectations," said Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, project manager of the company.
Towards building a systematic digital transformation strategy
To promote digital transformation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is committed to continuing to improve the legal framework and increase business support. Expert training programs, innovation consulting, and financial incentives will be implemented more strongly in the coming period.

Mr. Chu Viet Cuong proposed solutions, first, in the coming time , the Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to perfect the legal framework on digital transformation such as researching, reviewing, proposing and amending and supplementing legal documents on digital transformation.
Second, it is possible to issue an industrial production support program towards applying Industry 4.0 and moving towards digital transformation to develop smart factories by 2030.
Third, continue to support businesses in the process of training technical staff on digital transformation with the aim of raising awareness of digital transformation for businesses.
Relevant departments, branches and localities will also support businesses in minimizing administrative and legal procedures so that businesses can access digital transformation and smart factories faster.
“For Associations and industries, we also hope that associations and industries will be a bridge between businesses so that businesses can learn from each other to raise awareness of digital transformation as well as apply smart factory management models in the production and management process of businesses,” Mr. Cuong noted.
In addition, businesses need to standardize production processes, invest in technology and build a systematic digital transformation strategy. "Digital transformation is not a distant story. This is a roadmap that needs to be implemented step by step, from data digitization to automation, and finally smart manufacturing," Mr. Tran Kien Dung emphasized.
The opinions presented at the Forum also affirmed that digital transformation is not only a trend but also a vital factor for Vietnamese enterprises. With support from the State and international cooperation programs, Vietnamese enterprises have the opportunity to differentiate themselves, enhance their position and participate more deeply in the global supply chain.
