Going up to the top, going down to the bottom, day after day, the coal miners diligently work. Although it is hard and tiring, many people have been attached to the mining profession for their whole lives. Some have only been in the profession for a few years and have decided to continue this job forever. These miners all have one thing in common: seriousness, responsibility and love for their work and for this land.
"Sow effort, reap success"
Mining also gives them many things, most importantly a stable income at a fairly good level compared to many jobs of similar nature. In recent years, the story of miners earning 300 million VND/year is no longer a strange thing in Quang Ninh. Many people, thanks to their hard-working nature and creative work, have earned more than that - 400 million VND, and some even earn up to 500 million VND/year. Through mining, miners can build houses, buy means of transportation, buy living amenities, and provide education for their children. From faraway countrysides, they come to the mining land of Quang Ninh and have changed their lives thanks to mining.
Thao A Bai is from Dam Chau district, Yen Bai province. Like thousands of young people who left their poor rural areas to Quang Ninh to find work, Thao A Bai chose the mining profession. When asked about the opportunity to join the profession, Bai shared that he was attracted by the story about the mining profession of a fellow countryman. With the desire to escape poverty, Bai quickly decided to try his hand at the job of "eating rice in the living world and working in the underworld". From then on, he became a miner at Mining Workshop 5, Quang Hanh Coal Company - TKV.
Just starting his career, Thao A Bai was assigned to the coal mining workshop using ZH frame-type technology. This is a modern, safe support technology, high productivity, and less heavy work for workers. Bai also quickly caught the attention of the workshop leaders when he showed his diligence and meticulous, responsible working attitude.
For Thao A Bai, as long as he works hard, works hard and knows how to allocate his expenses reasonably, he can save at least 100 million VND each year. If he stays in his poor hometown of Dam Chau, Yen Bai, he doesn't know when he will have this amount of money.
“On average, my monthly income is 24-25 million VND. With that income, I can ensure my life. After deducting some personal expenses, I can send about 15-16 million VND back to my family each month,” Thao A Bai shared.
Many miners, when asked about the secret to having a high income, all have the same answer: hard work.
Visiting the family of Mr. Dong Van Hung - a level 5/5 miner of Uong Bi Coal Company and listening to his story of 20 years of working, we understand why he is always at the top of the workshop in terms of income. In the early days of entering the profession, the work was hard, mainly manual, the salary was only a few million VND/month, but Mr. Dong Van Hung was not discouraged, on the contrary, he tried twice as hard as everyone else to quickly adapt to the working environment in the mine. Taking diligence as his working motto, after 20 years, Mr. Dong Van Hung has become the highest level miner of the unit.
From a miner who did manual work such as reinforcing the tunnel, digging the roof, erecting beams, erecting supports, and shoveling and cleaning coal, Dong Van Hung is now able to operate a whole system of machines in the first light-weight synchronized mechanized market furnace of Uong Bi Coal. Hung is also one of the workers with the highest income in Workshop K12 - an average of 25-30 million VND/month.
The highest income in the workshop is also the remarkable achievement of miner Le Van Bien, Thong Nhat Coal Company - TKV. 20 years of experience is probably enough for miner Le Van Bien to understand the hardships and difficulties of the mining profession. However, even in the most difficult and challenging times, he never intended to choose another job. He even guided his youngest brother to follow the mining profession. Up to now, Le Van Bien's family is one of the few families with all 3 brothers working in the mining profession in the same unit.
Love for the Mining Region, love for coal and respect for the miner's profession are the reasons that bind him to this land. The miner's profession has given him a stable life, a solid economy and joy and happiness in his work. "From a young man starting a business in a foreign land with nothing, after many years of tireless efforts, I am now proud that I have a stable job and life. In my hometown Hai Duong, I have a spacious house, 3 children are educated properly..." - miner Le Van Bien confided.
The story of miners like Thao A Bai from Yen Bai, Dong Van Hung from Dong Trieu, and Le Van Bien from Hai Duong is also the story of thousands of young people who have chosen Quang Ninh as their place to settle down and choose the miner profession to stick with. Although the work is very hard, the shifts are frequent, daily life is disrupted, there is little time for wife and children, and health is also compromised; but the miner profession has brought them many things. The greatest and most encouraging achievement for them is the economy.
Clubs of skilled miners with high income
According to TKV, the number of miners with an income of over 300 million VND/year has continuously increased sharply in recent years. In 2018, the number of miners of 14 underground coal mining companies in the province with an income of 300 million VND or more was just over 700 people, but in 2019 it increased to over 2,600 people. By 2021 and 2022 and the first 7 months of 2023, this number continued to increase from 3,000-3,500 people/year. Leading the coal mining companies with the number of miners with high incomes are Ha Lam Coal, Vang Danh Coal, Mao Khe Coal, Thong Nhat Coal, Uong Bi Coal... Some typical workers have an income of 500 million VND/year, equivalent to an average income of 41 million VND/month.
Mining is indeed a very hard job, with many potential dangers and hazards, but each year, with many efforts and innovations in applying new technology, working conditions have become better and better, increasing productivity and efficiency 3-4 times compared to before, increasing workers' income.
Machines and mechanical equipment replace them in manual work, miners only need to master the techniques, master the technology, and operate smoothly to have a high productivity day. High productivity will determine the value of the products they make in a shift. Therefore, the common point of good miners with high income is often their hard-working nature, willingness to learn, working according to the process, not cutting corners or doing things carelessly.
In mines, they are classified as a group of high-quality workers, and some mines have established clubs for skilled miners with high incomes. These miners are valuable assets to businesses and increasingly work with their brains instead of manual labor as before. They are also a force that coal companies pay attention to, nurture, and develop.
Every day, after the shouts of safety, the miners will march underground. Their 8 hours of work each day will be exchanged for millions of tons of coal being cleared, bringing abundant energy to all economic sectors, all regions of the country. Each meter of the furnace, each ton of coal is not only the result of hours of hard work but also carries the wishes of tens of thousands of miners for a prosperous life, continuing the spirit of "Discipline and Unity" of the coal miners.
