Sharing about the challenges in the digital transformation process, Deputy Director of Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center Bui Thi Thu Huong said: In recent years, Quang Ninh press has continuously promoted digital transformation in professional activities; changed the method of operation and management; applied technology to the production process... Thereby, contributing to improving the quality and efficiency of operations, bringing information closer, faster, and more attractive to readers and listeners. However, to successfully transform digitally, there must be investment in technology infrastructure and technology human resources.

But in reality, in local press agencies today, these are difficulties and obstacles, especially the lack of high-quality human resources specializing in information technology system management and in-depth exploitation of information technology. At the same time, it is necessary to build coordination regulations between local Party newspapers in sharing information technology applications in the digital transformation process.

Sharing the same view on the difficulties and challenges of digital transformation, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Phu Tho Newspaper Dang Tien Dung said: In the process of globalization and the strong development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, digital technology, and the competition of digital media, publishing information content on digital platforms is an inevitable approach for newspapers, especially for local Party newspapers. Therefore, each newspaper and each journalist must truly transform, innovate, and enrich their knowledge and skills to adapt to changes in the comprehensive digital transformation of the newsroom.

According to Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tuyen Quang Newspaper Nguyen Thi Hoai Yen, in order to successfully transform digitally, high-quality human resources are one of the challenges and difficulties for press agencies. For example, Tuyen Quang Newspaper currently lacks highly qualified IT engineers to do network administration, data administration, and digital platform development. Sometimes in some cases, reporters and editors feel helpless when having to depend on technicians to solve their work; the change from offline working to online working or multi-platform working has made many reporters and editors unable to keep up.

Discussing “Practical experience from international and Vietnamese countries in applying Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to the editorial operations of the Vietnam News Agency”, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of VietNamPlus Electronic Newspaper Nguyen Hoang Nhat said: The digital revolution requires press agencies to gradually shift from transmitting information from paper documents to internet technology and digital platforms.

Digital transformation is an opportunity for press agencies to reposition their value in increasing readership, especially young readers. To do this, press agencies need to have a digital transformation strategy, invest in and effectively apply digital transformation in orienting public opinion and fighting and refuting bad and toxic information sources on current online platforms. In addition, applying artificial intelligence to news production and distribution to free up labor, helping reporters and editors focus on more creative products. The most important thing is that investing in technology is investing in the future and always valuing new platforms in addition to traditional platforms.

Analyzing the solutions for successful digital transformation of newspapers, Director of the Press Department, Ministry of Information and Communications Luu Dinh Phuc said: Digital transformation of newspapers is a process of comprehensive change of individuals and organizations; it is a change in production methods based on technology, a process of overall and comprehensive change, but the difficulties and challenges in digital transformation today are habits and awareness, so it is necessary to change and affirm the important role of the head of the press agency. In addition to bringing digital technology to gradually replace traditional methods in communication, press agencies need to pay more attention to readers and change management methods, have specific strategies to focus more on society with official, directional information, and fight against bad and toxic information on current social networking platforms.

In the coming time, the Ministry of Information and Communications will continue to have solutions to provide optimal mechanisms for press agencies in building a way to calculate standards for each current press product.

Sharing about the trend of approaching AI technology and the direction for the press in the coming time, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh affirmed: Press agencies have taken slow steps in digital transformation, but initially have brought certain effectiveness; if they know how to take advantage of technology, they will achieve important changes in development.

In the coming time, the direction of the press agencies in the future is to grasp AI technology, because this will help improve the work of journalists and bring great potential to each press agency; along with that, the use of digital technology, social networking platforms are also bringing certain effects in communication and journalism because it attracts a large number of readers. However, the attention to development strategies, collecting information directly to bring readers the current interest has not been really paid attention by press agencies.

On the other hand, the development of AI will make it difficult for the economic development of press agencies, especially the use of AI will also raise issues and legality in its use. For press agencies, the most important thing is to generate revenue, but the question is whether press information really brings value to readers; is the content really exclusive and different enough for readers? This is also a difficulty in the current economic development of newspapers.

Regarding the trend of press agencies in digital transformation, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Le Quoc Minh emphasized that the press must not use content without permission; there must be legal frameworks to protect press agencies and readers in the flow of digital transformation; besides, it is necessary to value printed newspapers as high-end products that provide valuable information with depth and understanding that only humans can bring.
