NDO - On September 21, in Da Nang , the Ministry of Information and Communications coordinated with the ASEAN Secretariat to organize the ASEAN Workshop on Digital Transformation of Journalism and Digital Knowledge Creation. The workshop was within the framework of the 16th ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information Meeting and Related Conferences ( AMRI 16 ).
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam spoke at the Workshop.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam said: “The digital transformation of the media is not merely a matter of survival, but is essential for the vitality of the industry. The media must not forget its noble mission - to provide accurate facts and meaningful analysis, protecting the public from being deceived by fake news and misinformation.” This is the first time ASEAN member countries have come together to share and discuss the topic of Digital Transformation in the Media. The workshop aims to create an open exchange platform to share the situation, policy-making process and best practices for digital transformation in the media. This will be the foundation for further discussion, proposing initiatives and cooperation priorities in the coming time. Deputy Minister Nguyen Thanh Lam said: “In this new era, the role and mission of the media goes beyond simply disseminating information. It is about exploiting information as a driving force for development, transforming information into knowledge and thereby adding value to society; and building a resilient and proactively adapting ASEAN. Our actions and adaptability will shape the years to come, affecting not only the media landscape but also the development of nations and the livelihoods of people.” The workshop included two main sessions and one open discussion session on measures for ASEAN countries to join hands to promote the audio-visual industry in the digital age. Overview of the Workshop.
Session 2: Introducing good practices and successful models of digital transformation in journalism and media - experiences from press agencies in Vietnam and ASEAN countries. Speakers from ASEAN member countries and Vietnam shared their models: equipping digital skills to improve the qualifications of editors and reporters in journalism and media; applying modern technology and effective digital platforms to support content production and management; sharing about data collection and revenue from data; strategies for developing and protecting content in digital transformation... Journalism, radio and television are fields that are being heavily impacted by the digital technology boom because traditional media activities are gradually losing market share and revenue to cross-border platforms. Therefore, digital transformation has become an inevitable trend. In that context, it is necessary for ASEAN countries to share experiences and understanding of strategies and good practices in promoting and orienting domestic press and media agencies to transform digitally in a sustainable manner. Digital transformation of media is an inevitable trend, aiming to improve the media capacity of the press in attracting viewership from social networking platforms, protecting traditional values along with the modernization of press and media. Digital transformation in media is essentially the application of increasingly modern technology to press activities, enriching the digital media ecosystem with new and superior features, helping to improve the quality and effectiveness of communication to information consumers.
