"Godmother" program supports orphans with nearly 10 billion VND

This is also a meaningful activity to celebrate Vietnamese Family Day June 28 to honor family values.

Speaking at the program, Chairwoman of the Hanoi Women's Union Le Kim Anh emphasized that the family is the cell of society, an important environment for nurturing and educating human personality; a place to preserve, cultivate and promote the precious traditional values ​​of the nation.

Children are the happiness of the family and the future of the country. Children have the right to live, to be protected, cared for, nurtured, educated, to study, to play to develop comprehensively, to live in the love and care of their family, community and society.

Faced with the extremely complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, affecting each family and children's education, in September 2021, implementing the direction of the Central Presidium of the Vietnam Women's Union and the Hanoi Party Committee, the Hanoi Women's Union launched the programs "Accompanying children" and "Godmother".

The program aims to promote the role, responsibility, and love of all levels of the Association, cadres, members, women, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, families and communities in protecting, caring for and educating children; accompanying and supporting children in their studies and lives, especially implementing "Godmother" connection activities, supporting orphans in especially difficult circumstances, orphans due to Covid-19 in the city.

With that humanitarian meaning, over the past 3 years, the "Godmother" program implemented by the City Women's Union has achieved positive results, with strong support, full of love and responsibility from all levels of the Union, cadres, women's union members, many organizations and individuals, especially the attention, direction and support from Party committees and authorities at all levels with 1,277 orphans in difficult circumstances, orphaned by Covid-19 have been sponsored with monthly support from 500,000 to 1 million VND. The total amount of money given and committed to support is 9 billion 850 million VND.

The program honored 35 groups and individuals who made great efforts in the 3 years of implementing the "Godmother" program.

There are 413 organizations and individuals who have become second mothers to the children, including 224 godmothers who are officials, members, and organizations of the Association; 163 godmothers who are organizations, businesses, philanthropists and 26 godfathers.

"Although life is still difficult and complicated, with a kind heart - a very good quality of Vietnamese women, and the tradition of loving others as you love yourself, women are ready to share and sponsor not just one child but many children" - the President of the City Women's Union emphasized.

With the encouragement of their families and "Godmothers", many children have strived to achieve good results in their studies. In particular, 12 children have won prizes in school, cluster, district and city level competitions in History, Chemistry, Literature, English and Sports - one child won a gold medal in Taekwondo of the city.

Children experience being an artisan in Bat Trang pottery village to gain more inspiration and motivation in the future.

Within the framework of the program, the City Women's Union organized many activities for the children to meet, exchange, and connect with each other and with their "Godmothers"; gain new experiences, equip themselves with skills, career orientation, and share their feelings and dreams.

At the same time, the City Women's Union also commended and honored 35 groups and individuals who have made great efforts in the 3 years of implementing the "Godmother" program; presented gifts, organized for 100 godchildren to experience being artisans of Bat Trang pottery village, and visited the Center of Vietnamese Craft Village Essence to inspire and motivate them on the future path ahead.
