ANTD.VN - The number of newly opened securities accounts in January 2025 dropped sharply to the lowest level since the end of 2023.
According to data from the Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD), the number of domestic investors' securities accounts increased by nearly 81,000 accounts in January 2025. Of which, most came from individual investors, while organizations only had 52 additional accounts.
The number of domestic investors' securities accounts increased last month was significantly lower than the previous month (141,000 accounts); at the same time, it is also the lowest number since the end of 2023.

According to the assessment, the low number of newly opened accounts is mainly due to the impact of the extended Lunar New Year holiday that partly overlaps with the end of January 2025.
Along with that, the gloomy stock market also reduced its appeal to investors. The VN-Index was almost flat compared to the beginning of the year, ending January at 1,265 points.
Meanwhile, the order matching value on the HOSE in January only reached approximately VND9,500 billion, the lowest in the past 22 months. Domestic investor sentiment was also negatively affected as foreign investors continued to dump their stocks on the Vietnamese stock market, despite the prospect of an upgrade approaching when the pre-funding bottleneck for foreign organizations is removed.
In 2024, this group sold a total of nearly VND94,450 billion. Since the beginning of the year, this group has also sold more than VND10,000 billion.
As of the end of January, domestic individual investors had a total of more than 9.3 million accounts, equivalent to about 9% of the population. Along with that, foreign investors have also opened 47,940 accounts to trade on the Vietnamese stock market.
