Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Nong District (Phu Tho) said that since the night of September 9, the military forces have prepared equipment to be ready for rescue and installation of a pontoon bridge to replace the collapsed Phong Chau Bridge. Currently, there are two things to do: rescue victims and vehicles that fell into the river and install a temporary pontoon bridge to replace Phong Chau Bridge for people to travel. According to Mr. Hung, in the past few days, the authorities have continuously assessed the water level and flow. When conditions are favorable and safety is ensured, they will carry out rescue and install the pontoon bridge immediately. This morning, the water level of the Red River at Phong Chau Bridge has receded by about 2m, and it is expected that the pontoon bridge can be installed in the next 1-2 days. At the ferry terminal area in Huong Non Commune (Tam Nong District), the authorities are cleaning up and preparing to install the pontoon bridge.

Military forces are clearing the ferry terminal in preparation for the installation of a pontoon bridge.

Regarding the Phong Chau bridge collapse, so far, the authorities have preliminarily determined that 8 people are missing and 3 injured people are being treated in the hospital. On September 10, the Vietnam Road Administration sent a document requesting the Ministry of Transport to consider assigning the Department to prepare a report proposing the investment policy for the new Phong Chau bridge on National Highway 32C using the state budget, implemented in the period of 2024-2025, to ensure traffic safety and meet the transportation needs on National Highway 32C. The People's Committee of Phu Tho province also proposed that the Government assign the Ministry of Transport to invest in building a new bridge to replace the old Phong Chau bridge with a modern scale, synchronized with National Highway 32C and serving the socio-economic development of the locality.
On September 10, Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen - Party Secretary and Political Commissar of Military Region 2 - said that the Ministry of National Defense has directed the Engineering Corps to prepare and survey the water flow to install a pontoon bridge when conditions permit. The Corps has mobilized 198 officers and soldiers of Brigade 249, 78 motorbikes, and equipment, all ready to carry out the task.
