The Government Office has just issued Official Dispatch No. 3575 to the Minister of Health on Covid-19 prevention and control in the new situation.
Accordingly, considering the report of the Ministry of Health on the prevention and control of Covid-19 in the new situation, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry to preside over the preparation of documents according to regulations to transfer Covid-19 from group A infectious disease to group B and declare the end of the epidemic for Covid-19.
The Prime Minister agreed to the consolidation of the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control as proposed by the Ministry of Health and assigned the Ministry of Health to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to prepare documents and submit them to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health is assigned to prepare the content and program, coordinate with the Government Office to organize a meeting of the National Steering Committee on May 27, 2023 to announce the end of the Steering Committee's tasks.
The Prime Minister also assigned the Ministry of Health to base on the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the actual situation of the Covid-19 epidemic in Vietnam, develop a plan for sustainable control and management of the Covid-19 epidemic in the period of 2023 - 2025, issue it according to its authority, and report to competent authorities for consideration and decision in cases beyond its authority.
Previously, on May 5, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared that Covid-19 is no longer a global health emergency but continued to warn that the disease will never disappear.
Countries still need to improve their response capacity and not let down their guard. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus - Director General of WHO said that WHO can still restore the global health emergency for Covid-19 at any time if the epidemic situation in the world is dangerous.
To date, after more than 3 years of the Covid-19 outbreak, Vietnam has had 11,600,569 infections, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories. The number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,201, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of infections .
