In the atmosphere of the first days of the new year, local people are actively harvesting the late winter crop; taking advantage of the time to visit the fields, sow and care for seedlings, and preparing conditions for planting spring rice in the best time frame.
According to the plan, in the 2025 spring crop, Tho Xuan district will plant 7,850 hectares of rice, including 5,700 hectares of hybrid rice, 1,700 hectares of high-quality pure rice and 500 hectares of rice seeds. In order to achieve high productivity and output of spring rice this year, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has proactively coordinated with units and localities, directed cooperatives to develop plans for land preparation, supply of materials, fertilizers, pesticides, and quality plant varieties to farmers. At the same time, solidify canals, do a good job of internal irrigation, and reinforce pumping stations to meet production requirements; continuously monitor weather developments to advise people to closely follow the crop calendar, develop irrigation and drainage plans to serve production... Along with that, encourage localities to focus on guiding people to expand the area of rice trays, transplanters, sowing seeds by machine, increase the application of integrated pest management measures... Up to this point, most of the units' seeds have been brought to the grassroots through the system of stores and cooperatives to serve the planting needs of farmers; this year's supply is quite abundant, the prices of rice seeds are relatively stable.
In Xuan Hong commune, entering spring crop production in unusual weather conditions, the People's Committee of Xuan Hong commune has planned to direct the maximum increase in late spring tea area, while at the same time appropriately restructuring to create land funds and time for summer-autumn crop and winter crop production. Therefore, the commune also recommends that people prioritize varieties with short growing time, high yield, good quality, wide adaptability and resistance to be planted such as: Thuy Huong 308, new BC15, TBR225, Thien Uu 8, Khang Dan varieties, various types of sticky rice... with the goal of planting 520 hectares. In addition, each field will only be structured with 1-2 varieties, each commune-level locality will be structured with 2-3 varieties to form a synchronous, concentrated production area, facilitating the application of intensive farming measures.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Tuan, a resident of Hung Manh village, Xuan Hong commune, said: "With many years of production experience, we are currently covering the seedlings to protect them from the cold and prevent rats from damaging them, bringing machinery to the fields to speed up the plowing and drying process... For low-lying areas, we also proactively take water to harrow and soak the stubble, clean the fields, and prepare for spring crop production according to the crop schedule."
Identifying the spring crop as the main crop with high yield potential and determining the growth rate of the agricultural sector, localities in the province have focused on directing and operating to achieve victory, especially in the context of unusual weather and climate changes. In the spring crop of 2025, the whole province strives to plant 112,000 hectares of rice, with a yield of 65 quintals/ha or more; of which, there are 6,720 hectares of glutinous rice. Because 2025 has a long winter-spring crop season, severe cold and frost damage appear widely, and with the view of maximizing the late spring area, localities will focus on planting rice fields around the beginning of spring, around February 4, 2025. In addition, priority is given to selecting high-quality varieties such as: X21, Thai Xuyen 111, TBR89, Phuc Thai 168, Thuy Huong 308, VNR20, VT404, Phu Uu 978; TBR225, TBR97, new BC15, Thien Uu... expand the area of sticky rice; arrange each tea neatly, each field only uses 1-2 types of seeds, focus on planting from 3 to 5 days. At the same time, expand the area of tray seedling, transplanting machine, sowing seeds by machine, increase the application of integrated pest management measures, use compressed fertilizer pellets buried deep in areas where irrigation water is not available...
With the close direction of all levels and sectors, farmers in all localities are currently actively mobilizing all resources to organize the harvest of winter crops, freeing up nearly 100,000 hectares of land to proactively clean the fields and prepare conditions for spring crop production. Along with that, agricultural service centers and cooperatives closely coordinate with agricultural material production and trading units to plan to provide enough seeds, materials and fertilizers to farmers, ensuring quality, sufficient quantity, correct types and reasonable prices. Irrigation sub-departments, irrigation management and exploitation companies regularly coordinate with localities to focus on repairing and upgrading irrigation works damaged by floods, especially reservoirs to promptly meet production needs. Currently, the sown rice areas in all localities are covered with nylon to protect against the cold, so they grow and develop well.
