On September 21, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung and leaders of departments, branches and Nam Giang district were present at village 56B, Dac Pre commune, Nam Giang district to conduct a field inspection. This is the locality where cracks 1.3-5m deep and nearly 150m long have just appeared on the hill behind the residential area. After more than 5 hours of travel, the delegation of provincial leaders walked to the location where the cracks appeared.
Currently, local authorities and Border Guard officers and soldiers have organized an emergency evacuation of 11 households with 41 people in village 56B, Dac Pre commune to a safe place.
After a field inspection, Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung said that the cracks were too deep, dangerous and threatened people's lives. Quang Nam leaders also highly appreciated the locality's quick and timely response in evacuating people to safety.
“At first glance, this hill will eventually collapse because the cracks are too large. Therefore, people must absolutely not return to their old residences. The local authorities must be responsible for sharing, encouraging and reminding people to stay in the arranged places,” Mr. Le Van Dung directed.
The weather is currently no longer rainy, but the ground is very weak, soft and the cracks show signs of widening. Therefore, the Dac Pring Border Guard Station has assigned a working group to be on duty at the area where the cracks appear, ready to coordinate with local forces to promptly handle any dangerous situations.
According to the leaders of Nam Giang district, the lives of the people when evacuated to a safe place have been guaranteed in terms of domestic water, personal belongings and food. The people's property is also guaranteed to be safe and will be evacuated as soon as possible.
Surveying the evacuation site, Mr. Le Van Dung highly appreciated the facilities and the spiritual life of the people. The Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee also presented many gifts to people at the landslide risk area as well as visited and encouraged people to try to stay in their current location. The government will soon have a timely support plan.
Currently, all the houses at the foot of the hill and the landslide-prone areas are no longer inhabited. Some households only pass through to bring essential personal belongings.
In addition, the delegation also surveyed some places where resettlement land could be arranged for the people. Provincial leaders affirmed that they would provide maximum support in procedures and finance for Nam Giang district to soon implement the project to help people have a safe and sustainable place to live.
The proposed resettlement site for the people is located not far from the people's village, ensuring sufficient safety height.
