President Vo Van Thuong attended the 20th anniversary of Hau Giang province (January 1, 2004 - January 1, 2024) in Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province.

On the evening of January 1, the ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hau Giang province's establishment (January 1, 2004 - January 1, 2024) and receive the First Class Labor Medal took place solemnly in Vi Thanh city, Hau Giang province. President Vo Van Thuong attended and delivered a speech, respectfully presenting the First Class Labor Medal to the Party Committee, government and people of Hau Giang province.

Also attending the ceremony were former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; Politburo member, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man; leaders and former leaders of the Party and State; leaders and former leaders of Hau Giang province through the periods, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor, and a large number of Hau Giang people.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that Hau Giang - the central land of the West Hau River sub-region and Ca Mau peninsula; the revolutionary base during the two resistance wars; the place that marked many resounding victories such as Tam Vu, Chuong Thien; the place where the first facility of the Southern Party School was located to train revolutionary cadres.

Hau Giang has Xa No canal which has become the symbol of “The rice road of Hau Giang”; the famous Nga Bay floating market, which tells the story of a beautiful love story of a mat seller and preserves many unique traditional values of the Southern region. Hau Giang also has Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve, known as the “green lung” of the land of nine dragons.

Throughout the history of the nation, overcoming all difficulties, hardships and sacrifices in the struggle for national liberation, national unification, building and defending the homeland, the people of Hau Giang have cultivated a tradition of solidarity, loyalty, indomitability, bravery and heroism.

Recalling the time in 2004 when it was first established, as a purely agricultural province, with a low starting point, facing many difficulties and challenges, the President stated: The Party Committee and the people of Hau Giang were unanimous, joined hands, promoted traditions, inherited important achievements gained through the terms, with the spirit of innovation, breakthrough, determination, strategic vision, correct decisions, daring to think, daring to do, promoting internal strength, taking advantage of opportunities, arousing aspirations, and taking drastic actions, Hau Giang has developed dramatically, achieving quite comprehensive and impressive results in all fields.

According to the President, Hau Giang has entered a new development period in a context of many advantages and new opportunities, but also many difficulties and challenges. Although the economy has grown rapidly, the scale of the economy is still small; average income per capita, population size, and urbanization rate are still low; the poverty rate is still high compared to the region and the whole country; human resources have not met the requirements; transport and industrial infrastructure, and regional connectivity are still limited. Located in the Mekong Delta, Hau Giang is also heavily affected by climate change, changes in the flow of the Mekong River, drought, saltwater intrusion, freshwater scarcity, ecosystem degradation, and increasing environmental pollution.

The President assessed that Hau Giang is in a golden period of converging strengths and potentials; located in the central area, bordering Can Tho city, with an important strategic position in the Southwest region; therefore, the province needs to take advantage of and promote the potentials and strengths of the river delta province, the advantages of the later localities, strive for rapid and sustainable development, and effectively contribute to the development and growth of the Mekong Delta and the country. Hau Giang needs to focus on strongly shifting the economic structure associated with renewing the growth model, continuing to improve the investment and business environment; improving productivity, quality and competitiveness; paying attention to training and attracting high-quality human resources; promoting research, application of scientific and technological advances, innovation in production, and serving people's lives.

The President noted that as the rice granary of the West, Hau Giang needs to continue to focus on investing in agricultural development with high productivity, good quality, high-tech agricultural production, high added value, and competitiveness. The province actively implements digital transformation in the agricultural sector, adapts to climate change, develops specialized production areas, focuses on large-scale commodity production, and organizes production according to the cooperative economic model and new-style cooperatives; creates breakthroughs in preserving and processing agricultural products to meet market demand, high economic efficiency, increase income, and improve the lives of rural residents.

Believing that economic development must go hand in hand with cultural and social development, ensuring social progress and equity, the President emphasized: The province needs to continue investing, preserving and promoting cultural and revolutionary historical values associated with the development of eco-tourism, creating a driving force for economic and social development. Pay more attention to people's health care, improve the quality of education and training, build and develop culture and people, create quality human resources to meet the development requirements of the province; well implement the gratitude policy, take good care of policy families and meritorious people. The province increases investment in essential infrastructure, creates livelihoods, basic social services for people in remote areas and ethnic minorities; focuses on sustainable poverty reduction, well solves social security; improves people's quality of life, narrows the development gap between urban and rural areas.

The President stated: The Party Committee and people of Hau Giang need to pay special attention to resource management, environmental protection, and have effective solutions to adapt to climate change; considering climate change not only a challenge but also a lesson to behave modestly and scientifically with nature. The President directed that Party committees and organizations in the province must focus on building and rectifying the Party and the political system, continuing to innovate leadership methods, associated with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, ensuring that Party organizations and Party members are truly clean and strong; the government apparatus operates effectively and efficiently, and the contingent of cadres and civil servants are honest, close to the grassroots, understand the people, and wholeheartedly serve the people.

Promote the exemplary role of cadres, party members and members of socio-political organizations; tighten discipline, strengthen the prevention and fight against corruption and negativity; the collective leadership and heads must be proactive, creative, dare to think, dare to do for the common good. Focus on building a team of capable and qualified cadres. Improve the quality and effectiveness of mass mobilization work, activities of the Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, better meet the requirements of tasks in the new situation. Promote the glorious tradition of the heroic homeland of Hau Giang, the great achievements gained after 20 years of the province's establishment, the President believes that the Party Committee and people of Hau Giang province will continue to unite, make efforts, strive to achieve even greater results, building Hau Giang into a bright spot, a prosperous province of the Mekong Delta and the whole country.
