Since the beginning of 2025, the Department has developed a plan to prevent and control animal diseases; advised the Department of Agriculture and Environment to issue a plan to implement disease prevention measures; focused on rabies vaccination for dogs and cats. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Head of the Department, said: According to regulations, communes in area 3 are supported 100% of the cost of vaccines and injection labor (84,695 doses). Communes in area 2 are supported 50% of the cost (3,869 doses). Communes in area 1 are supported 30% of the cost (40,428 doses). The Department coordinates with local authorities to propagate and mobilize people to pay for vaccination costs themselves, contributing to protecting the community and preventing the risk of rabies spreading. To date, the Department has allocated 138,837 doses of rabies vaccine to districts, towns and cities.

In Mai Son district, a rabies vaccination campaign is being implemented for a total of more than 31,000 dogs and cats. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tho, a veterinary officer of the town, said: Veterinary staff in communes and towns implement the motto of "going to every alley, knocking on every door" to directly vaccinate pets in households.

Although having to pay all the expenses himself, the people actively participated. Mr. Vu Ngoc Dinh, hamlet 2, sub-area 14, Hat Lot town, shared: My family raises a pet dog, I always vaccinate it against rabies periodically. This not only protects my family, but also ensures the safety of the community. Therefore, I paid 35,000 VND for each injection for the dog. After the vaccination, I was given a certificate that the pet had been vaccinated.

Veterinary staff of Hat Lot town, Mai Son district, vaccinate livestock against rabies.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Director of the District Agricultural Service Center: To date, 1,436 doses have been administered in the communes of Dua Mon, Chieng Phung, and Chieng Khoong. The center ensures timely receipt, storage, and distribution of vaccines, strives to complete the province's vaccination plan, and mobilizes vaccination of all livestock in the town.

To date, the province has administered 2,670 doses of rabies vaccine to livestock as prescribed and thousands of doses in the form of socialization in wards and towns. The provincial Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries is speeding up the completion of legal procedures, ensuring the supply of vaccines, chemicals and veterinary supplies as planned. At the same time, it is strengthening guidance and inspection of compliance with procedures and techniques in preventing animal diseases.

Rabies prevention and control in pets is being actively implemented. However, to maintain sustainability, rabies vaccination for dogs and cats is not only the responsibility of the authorities, but also requires the self-awareness of each household raising dogs and cats... to join hands to protect pets, ensure community safety, and prevent the spread of rabies.
