Chroy Changvar - the place that marked Vietnam's miracle at SEA Games 32

Chroy Changvar Stadium in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) witnessed the achievements and victories of Vietnamese weightlifting and fencing athletes at the 32nd SEA Games.

The Olympic Sports Complex and Chroy Changvar Gymnasium in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh are two competition venues where VNA reporters worked on the final day of the 32nd SEA Games.

This is also the place where we and our colleagues from Vietnam together experienced feelings that cannot be found anywhere else or perhaps more special than any moment witnessing the victory of any Vietnamese athletes before.

Not only because of the moment when weightlifter Nguyen Quoc Toan broke 3 consecutive SEA Games records in weightlifting to start a day of reaping many more precious medals for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, creating an extremely intense emotion, but also because of the thrilling moments when watching the Vietnamese fencers conquer the historic Gold medal in the men's sabre event against the strongest opponent in the Singapore region at Chroy Changvar.

A new weight was registered and successfully conquered by weightlifter Nguyen Quoc Toan, just like the lightning-fast sprint to the finish line of Nguyen Thi Oanh or Nguyen Thi Huyen and her teammates on the track at Morodok Techo in the exciting days before.

Those achievements also received the applause of our opponents right at the stadium, which multiplied our Vietnamese pride and made us feel happier than ever.

Just like each sword strike of Cao Minh Duyet, Pham Quoc Tai, Nguyen Van Hai and Nguyen Minh Quang scored points, helping the Vietnamese men's fencing team make a dramatic comeback against Singapore, the accelerations of Tran Hung Nguyen or Nguyen Huy Hoang on the "green track" brought about an emotional explosion.

At the moment fencer Nguyen Minh Quang scored a "match point," the entire B area of the stadium immediately resounded with the song "As if Uncle Ho were here on the day of great victory" in the bustling singing of all the athletes and coaching staff of the Vietnamese fencing team.

Together, they overcame their limitations to win the first gold medal at the SEA Games in the sword event and put their names on the gold medal list of achievements in the country's sports.

The first things are always deep in our minds and will always be mentioned with the meaning of a new beginning, a breakthrough in the spirit of "Higher, Further and Faster" of our country's sports.

Not only the members of the Vietnamese fencing team but all other members of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation will always aim for that spirit of expansion and conquest in larger tournaments.

Late in the afternoon of May 16, as we walked along the corridor of the Chroy Changvar Stadium, volunteers and staff began to dismantle the competition mats, the once-full stands were neatly lowered, the large screens used for the competitions began to be moved away from the competition venues, and the athletes finally left one after another with smiles on their faces, leaving behind a large void both in space and in feeling.

This is also our last visit here during this congress and perhaps when we all leave, Chroy Changvar will be very quiet until it returns to its proper function as an exhibition area later.

In just a few hours, the closing ceremony of SEA Games 32 will take place so that we can together close the days of exciting competition that have been left behind, but the spirit of victory is always looking forward./.
