As Thanh Nien Newspaper reported, Long An Club sent a dispatch to VFF and VPF announcing its withdrawal from the national first division tournament for the 2024-2025 season when Mr. Thang wanted to withdraw from football and return the team to the province.
But a surprise appeared when representatives of HAGL Club and sponsor LPBank tried to connect with local football people to try to rescue the team with the most achievements in the West.
Those efforts were effective when on August 28, Long An province leaders agreed with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on a plan to maintain the team in the professional playground this season.
Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Long An province, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thanh said: "At the last minute, the provincial leaders successfully mobilized and agreed on a support plan from financial sponsors so that Long An Club can continue to participate in the professional tournament next season."
As Thanh Nien Newspaper reported, the participating parties agreed on the plan that HAGL Club will support the Long An Club in terms of personnel, with the core being the young players who just won the 2024 National U.21 Championship, along with financial guarantee from LPBank Chairman Nguyen Duc Thuy.
This can be considered good news for one of the leading flags of Western football, when Long An Club won 2 consecutive V-League championships (2005, 2006), 3 times runner-up and had 2 first division championships, 1 National Cup, 2 National Super Cups... and provided many national players.
It is known that in addition to HAGL Club and sponsor LPBank, Long An province leaders have also successfully mobilized a number of businesses to provide financial support so that the team, once considered the leading team in the West, can continue to compete in the professional tournament in the 2024-2025 season.
It is known that Mr. Thang is in the process of handing over the team to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Long An province, and has withdrawn all members of the board of directors, officers and employees of Long An Club to arrange other jobs in the group.
As soon as possible, Coach Ngo Quang Sang and the coaching staff will urgently complete the squad with a framework of 10 old players, and promote young players from the U.21 Long An and U.21 HAGL teams to become the 11th club to compete in the 2024-2025 first division instead of 12 teams as originally planned.
Recently, VPF announced the postponement of the draw and schedule for the 2024-2025 first division tournament. Now that Long An is staying, VPF will have an easier time arranging the schedule.
