Conquering the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon in the hot sun of Da Nang

This event is organized by Sunrise Events Vietnam in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City. This is the 8th time the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon competition has taken place in Da Nang City.

From early morning, nearly 3000 athletes started the sea swimming event.

Thousands of athletes have entered the IRONMAN 70.3 Vietnam 2024 triathlon race. Nearly 3,000 domestic and international athletes from 52 countries and territories, including more than 1,500 Vietnamese athletes, participated. From early morning, athletes started to conquer the 1.9 km sea swimming distance, after completing the swimming, they continued to challenge themselves with a 90 km cycling course around the coastal road of Da Nang city and finally the running event. The most difficult part was the last 21 km of running when the athletes' physical strength was exhausted, they had to run under the hot sun.

By noon, the athletes had finished their competition. The Organizing Committee had set up 8 water stations with thousands of bottles of cool water, fruit and many volunteers to support the athletes on the race track. Due to the extremely hot weather, this year the Organizing Committee had also arranged ziplock bags of ice for the athletes to cool down while running and cycling.

Athletes conquer 90km cycling on the beautiful coastal road of Da Nang

Athlete Le Nhat Tai, who has participated in this race three times, said: “This is a sport that focuses on willpower, endurance and discipline in training, because of those things that help athletes feel excited and happy when participating like a journey to conquer something. They have a lot of experience in this event, typically from IRONMAN Phu Quoc, they have very thick zip bags and water stations to help athletes feel more comfortable, cooler and perform better.”

Athletes conquer ocean swimming

Over the years, Da Nang city has successfully organized many large-scale regional sporting events.

The event has a very beautiful race track.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thao, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Da Nang City affirmed that the city always strives to create a reliable meeting place for large-scale sports and cultural activities: “We aim to create more new events, through cultural and sports events to attract more tourists to Da Nang City. That is the tourism industry but it is a close relationship between sports and tourism, people call it sports economy. In addition, it also promotes many images of Da Nang City to their friends. This is a huge impact on Da Nang's tourism services in marine sports”.
