(Dan Tri) - On November 15, the Government decided to convert the National Economics University into a university. The National Economics University became the 9th university in Vietnam.
National Economics University is a public educational institution under the Ministry of Education and Training, with legal status, its own seal and account.
The Government also requested the National Economics University to reorganize its organizational structure and operations in accordance with the Law on Higher Education and related regulations.
During that process, the school must ensure the rights and interests of all parties, operate normally, and not allow negativity, loss, or waste of finance and assets.
The University Council and the Principal continue to perform their duties until the Ministry of Education and Training recognizes the University Council and the Director of the National Economics University.

There are currently 9 universities nationwide, including: Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Da Nang University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Duy Tan University, and National University of Economics. Except for Duy Tan University, which is a private university, the rest are public institutions.
Previously, in early 2024, the National Economics University established three affiliated schools: Economics and Public Management, Business and Technology.
This is the first step for the school to restructure and is expected to become the National Economics University, striving to become a smart university, a digital university.
The school leaders hope that this will not only be called a "university" but will strive to become a smart university, a digital university, providing students with a good learning environment and experience.
The school implements a 3-level organizational model, under the National Economics University there are 3 member schools, in the schools there are faculties. Some traditional departments will no longer exist, besides, it is expected that there will be completely new majors. When students of the 3 member schools graduate, there is only one institution that grants degrees, which is the National Economics University.
Regarding the student population when converting from a "university" to a "university", the school's strategic direction is not to increase the population size dramatically but to focus on in-depth investment, so that the student population is relatively stable. However, the school can increase the population size of technology majors a little.
The National Economics University currently has about 25,000 full-time students and more than 1,200 staff and lecturers. The number of undergraduate training majors is 60, and 28 doctoral training majors. In the development strategy for the period 2021-2030, the school aims to be among the top 5 universities in Vietnam.
