(NLDO) - A passenger ferry in Tam Hai island commune, Quang Nam province sank in cold, rainy weather. Fortunately, 14 people escaped.
On the morning of December 23, the leader of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam province confirmed that the ferry carrying passengers to and from Tam Hai island commune, Nui Thanh district, sank.
According to initial information, at around 7:00 a.m. the same day, a passenger ferry traveling from Binh Trung village (Tam Hai commune) to Xuan My village (Tam Hai commune) was crossing the Truong Giang river, when it was near the shore, it was flooded and sank.

At that time, there were 14 people and many motorbikes on the boat, the weather was cold and rainy. Fortunately, the ferry sank when it was close to the shore, so everyone was able to help each other to safety. However, motorbikes and many people's belongings sank with the ferry into the river.
Mr. Ngo Duc An, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nui Thanh district, said that the sunken ferry was privately owned, licensed by the government and was within the inspection period, and the driver had a full driver's license.
This morning, local authorities and Border Guards are searching for motorbikes and people's property that sank into the water and investigating the cause of the incident.
Tam Hai island commune has a population of over 6,000 people, surrounded by the sea and the Truong Giang River on all four sides. To get to Tam Hai island commune, you have to take a ferry from Tam Quang commune or Tam Hoa. Currently, the ferry route from Tam Quang commune to Tam Hai is still operating normally.
