Race with reference questions for high school graduation 2025

(Dan Tri) - The 2025 high school graduation reference exam is modern and completely new compared to the old exam method. Therefore, students and universities are "racing" to adapt.

According to Mr. Ta Tuan Phuong, math teacher at Einstein High School (Hanoi), the 2024 school year is the first year that 12th graders will take the high school graduation exam according to the new program.

According to the school, many students are very worried, especially when the Ministry of Education and Training announced the reference exam with many innovations.

"In our school, students have been familiar with the same format of reference questions that the ministry has just announced for many years now, but teachers still have to change more in teaching and learning to suit the innovation trend.

As for public schools, I think there will have to be a lot of changes in both testing and teaching, only then can students catch up with the new testing style," said Mr. Phuong.

According to this teacher, in addition to worrying about the new exam questions, many students are under additional pressure to cope with separate exams.

In addition to studying at school, many students have to attend several review classes to assess their abilities and thinking skills from morning to night, sometimes from 5am.

"During the second semester, some students asked for leave many times to take part in separate entrance exams, disrupting their studies in class. In particular, students from far away had to pack up and go to big cities to take the exam, costing a considerable amount of money.

To ensure that the completion of the general education program is not disrupted by separate exams, in my opinion, universities should only organize separate exams when students complete the 12th grade program and each school should only organize 2 separate exams/year.

Currently, there are too many separate exams with different names, causing confusion for students, while they feel uneasy if they don't participate, afraid of missing out on opportunities," said Mr. Phuong.

Will the separate admission exam keep up with the new program?

Also with this point of view, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Ba Vu (Chemistry Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) said that the current university-specific exams need to assess capacity according to the 2018 General Education Program (2018 General Education Program).

The 2018 General Education Program has described the criteria and indicators of each specific competency component. The questions in the sample exam assess students' responses to specific indicators of the competency.

The entrance exams of higher education institutions also need to be consistent with the curriculum of subjects and student competencies.

Therefore, these facilities need to publish criteria and indicators of the competencies to be assessed along with illustrative test questions suitable for the announced competency assessment purpose.

"I think these are important bases for the Ministry of Education and Training to perform its role as State management, for higher education institutions to implement the mechanism of self-responsibility and accountability, and for people to exercise their right to supervision," Associate Professor Vu said.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (senior lecturer at Hanoi National University of Education, member of the 2018 general education program development board) said that any educational process aims to create changes in learners according to educational goals.

The educational goal of the 2018 General Education Program according to Resolution No. 29-TW-4/11/2013 is to focus on developing intelligence, physical strength, forming civic qualities and capacities, discovering and nurturing talents, and providing career orientation for students.

To assess students' abilities, test questions must assess the manifestations of abilities, as prescribed in the 2018 General Education Program.

The reference questions that the Ministry of Education and Training has just announced not only meet the requirements for assessing students' abilities according to the 2018 General Education Program but also meet the requirements of Resolution No. 29-TW-4/11/2013, which means ensuring reliability, honesty, and correct assessment of students' abilities, serving as a basis for vocational education and university education enrollment.

In our country, there is currently only one general education program, which is the 2018 General Education Program. The requirements that students need to meet are the requirements of the Party and the State on forming and developing qualities and capacities for the young generation.

To properly implement legal documents on general education, all forms of assessment of general education students must follow the requirements of this educational program.

The separate entrance exams of higher education institutions must assess the capacity requirements of students as prescribed in the 2018 General Education Program.

According to the assessment of the majority of teachers, the reference questions have strong differentiation. This is an important basis for higher education institutions to trust and can use for enrollment purposes in the spirit of Resolution No. 29-TW-4/11/2013.

Thus, the teaching results of teachers can help students have the opportunity to pass the university entrance exam without having to go through other exams. This will contribute to raising the status of teachers in education.
