Since the beginning of the year, the weather in Ha Tinh has been favorable for dangerous infectious diseases to arise and spread among livestock and poultry. Currently, African swine fever is still smoldering in the 8 communes of Yen Hoa, Cam Duong, Cam Thach, Cam Thanh, Cam Due (Cam Xuyen district), Tuong Son, Thach Tri, Ha Tinh city and Hoa Hai (Huong Khe district).

The most worrying thing is that at this time of the season, the weather changes suddenly, reducing the resistance of livestock and poultry, creating favorable conditions for pathogens to develop and spread. Therefore, the solution of fully vaccinating all types of vaccines is the leading way to prevent diseases for livestock.
According to the Ha Tinh Department of Crop Production and Livestock, after review, the total livestock herd subject to the first vaccination in 2025 includes nearly 2.2 million poultry, 97,000 buffaloes and cows, 184,000 pigs and more than 88,700 dogs.
The vaccination period will last from now until May 30. Therefore, localities need to focus on mobilizing human and material resources to ensure the vaccination process achieves high results, providing good support for the process of disease prevention and control in livestock (ensuring that at least 80% of livestock are fully vaccinated with the right type of vaccine at the time of vaccination); regularly informing livestock farmers to raise awareness, comply with vaccination regulations, and protect livestock and poultry well.
As an area where African swine fever has been present for less than 21 days, while its administrative boundaries are large, Ha Tinh City has proactively directed localities to count the number of livestock that need to be vaccinated early, and at the same time established vaccination teams by cluster and commune, and vaccinated in a rolling manner for each commune.
Mr. Tran Viet Phuong, Director of the Center for Application of Science and Technology and Protection of Plants and Livestock of Ha Tinh City, informed that up to now, the city has vaccinated more than 1,200/4,255 buffalo and cows against lumpy skin disease, vaccinated nearly 2,000/21,840 pigs against swine fever and swine septicemia, and vaccinated nearly 2,000/5,706 dogs against rabies.
“To inject quickly and ensure quality, we closely coordinate with the provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock to provide technical training, instructions on preservation and transportation tools, vaccination techniques, and vaccination timing for each type of vaccine to each commune and ward professional officer. In addition, we assign people to directly monitor the area to monitor progress and provide professional support when necessary,” said Mr. Phuong.

Ms. Nguyen Huyen's herd of 8 pigs in Thach Tri commune is located in an area affected by African swine fever, so this time she followed the recommendations of veterinary staff and fully vaccinated them according to regulations. In addition, the family's 3 dogs have just registered for rabies vaccination, and are expected to be vaccinated next week.
An Dung Commune, Duc Tho District is a locality with developed livestock farming activities. People are tending to restore and increase their herds after Tet. Currently, the locality has vaccinated more than 320 buffaloes and cows against anthrax and foot-and-mouth disease; vaccinated more than 550 dogs against rabies and will speed up the progress in the coming days.
The government has stepped up propaganda about subjects required to be vaccinated, the time and regulations on vaccination so that farmers know and strictly comply. In addition, it has prepared adequate means, tools, materials and arranged additional human resources to serve the vaccination work.

According to the review, in this vaccination campaign, Duc Tho district has more than 6,900 buffaloes and cows; more than 8,800 pigs; more than 9,300 dogs; and over 83,100 poultry that must be vaccinated with mandatory vaccines.
The Department of Crop Production and Animal Husbandry of Ha Tinh Veterinary Medicine requested 12 districts, towns and cities, especially localities with large livestock herds such as Vu Quang, Huong Son, Huong Khe, Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen districts, etc. to actively propagate and mobilize livestock farmers to proactively register for livestock and poultry vaccination according to regulations to limit damage caused by epidemics.
In addition, strengthen disease surveillance in livestock and poultry, especially in areas with previous epidemics or high risk to promptly detect, warn and handle immediately when there are signs of an epidemic.
