With a love for the profession and a heart full of enthusiasm, many teachers have not been afraid of hardships, climbing mountains and crossing streams to bring letters to remote areas, opening up a bright future for disadvantaged students and disabled children in mountainous areas.

Opportunity for students with special circumstances

With nearly 30 years of working in the education sector, Ms. Pham Thi Lan Anh, a teacher at Chieng Sung Primary and Secondary School (Chieng Sung Commune, Mai Son District, Son La) has always strived to improve her professional qualifications, contributing to improving the quality of education in disadvantaged areas.

She is also one of the volunteer teachers who helps many students with especially difficult circumstances to improve their lives.

Teacher Pham Thi Lan Anh is always loved by her students.

The opportunity for Ms. Lan Anh to start volunteering was in 2020, when she and her colleagues visited the family of Lo Thi Nhu (Thai ethnic group), an orphan. When the teacher gave her the charity gifts sent by her aunts and uncles, the girl was very happy. But when she got on the bus to go home, she burst into tears.

The teacher turned around to encourage and comfort little Nhu. Little Nhu hugged the teacher and asked to call her mom. Ms. Lan Anh felt sorry for the little girl who lacked parental love and was very touched by the love that little Nhu had for her. From then on, every noon, the teacher took advantage of her short break to travel nearly 3km of winding and difficult roads to teach little Nhu. Every Saturday afternoon, the teacher came to pick up little Nhu to go to her house to play and stayed until Monday morning to take her child to class.

Thanks to the encouragement and care of Ms. Lan Anh and the teachers, Nhu has made great efforts to study well. For three consecutive years, she has been a good and excellent student. “I am very happy with the results she has achieved. After finishing 9th grade, she told me: Mom, let me live at your house during the summer. I am so scared at home! During the 3 summer months, she stayed with me and had a lot of fun. After that, I asked to let her go to the Social Protection Center of Son La province. Every week, every Sunday, she called home to report on her study situation: Mom, the teachers praised me… I feel extremely happy with her efforts and progress,” Ms. Lan Anh shared.

Not only helping little Lo Thi Nhu, Ms. Lan Anh also used her salary to buy rice and necessities to support both families of Lo Anh Vu. Vu is an orphan, living with his elderly grandmother, who is paralyzed and bedridden.

Because she participated in many groups and associations with the same goals and interests, her stories about excellent students with especially difficult circumstances attracted the attention of members and friends. She called for support for the families of the two children (Nhu and Vu) with blankets, mosquito nets, beds, wardrobes, desks, essential items and monthly necessities such as rice and instant noodles.

Up to now, both Vu and Nhu have been studying and living at the Son La Provincial Social Protection Center. Lo Thi Nhu shared: "I am very grateful to mother Lan Anh for helping me have the life I have today. I was not born as lucky as my friends, but I have the love of mother Lan Anh, so I will try to study well to make my mother happy."

Spread good deeds

Friendly and sociable are the words of her colleagues about teacher Pham Thi Lan Anh. She is not only loved by students, parents, and colleagues for her love of the profession and enthusiasm for work, but also for her dedication to volunteer activities.

Graduated from Son La College in 1995, majoring in Primary Education, teacher Pham Thi Lan Anh worked at Chieng Sung Primary and Secondary School. She was assigned to teach at Bai Tam village school, more than 10km from the commune center.

At that time, the road to school was still bumpy and difficult to travel, and the lives of the people here were still difficult. Ms. Lan Anh recalled: "The school I taught at that time was still thatched and had bamboo walls. The classroom lasted for a few years and then seriously deteriorated. Feeling sorry for the students who had to study in the old, leaky classroom, in 2000, I discussed with my family to buy a 3-room wooden house near the village school, then used 1 room and 1 kitchen to live in, and the remaining 2 rooms, I used to teach. At that time, when the new school was built, everyone was excited because the books were no longer wet or dirty from mud.

Currently, teacher Lan Anh teaches at Thong Nhat school, Chieng Sung commune. With more than 28 years of dedication to the teaching profession, she has always strived to continuously improve her knowledge, expertise and professionalism. With the knowledge she has learned at school, experience gained from practice and learning from colleagues, in school and district level competitions, she is highly appreciated for her expertise, expertise as well as her situation handling skills. During class, she always creates a friendly, enthusiastic and close atmosphere with her students, helping them to be interested and passionate about learning and practicing.

Teacher Nguyen Thi Huyen, a teacher at Chieng Sung Primary and Secondary School, who has been helped and supported by Ms. Lan Anh since she first started her career, shared: "Ms. Lan Anh is a dedicated teacher. When she first started her career, going to remote schools, Ms. Lan Anh did not hesitate to support me and other colleagues to go to students' homes to encourage them to go to school. We really admire Ms. Lan Anh for her love for her job."

From 2020 to now, teacher Lan Anh has encouraged, supported, and provided legal assistance to 10 orphans, poor households, and disadvantaged students in Chieng Sung and Chieng Chan communes. In addition, she has also mobilized, called for, and "connected" 5 trips of necessities, including: Rice, instant noodles, cooking oil, and clothes to the people of Chieng Sung, Chieng Chan, and Ta Hoc communes... worth nearly 300 million VND.

Ms. Lan Anh shared: "Seeing my hard work, my family and relatives initially objected. But I still tried to maintain both my teaching job and supporting students. When doing charity work, I was always transparent and responsible for my work, so I created trust with benefactors. Gradually, my relatives and friends saw the meaning of my work, so they supported and contributed to the community's life."

With her contributions and achievements, teacher Pham Thi Lan Anh is a shining example in the mutual love movement, "the rich help the poor", especially the gratitude movement of Chieng Sung Primary and Secondary School. Her kindness not only helps the poor to reduce their difficulties, but also arouses humanity, spreading the fire of volunteerism in the community.
