Child online safety: from home to school

The Ministry of Information and Communications has issued a Code of Conduct on protecting children online, which sets out nine codes of conduct for parents, caregivers and teachers to ensure children's safety online.

The Code of Conduct emphasizes respect for children's personal freedom in the online environment. At the same time, it encourages parents, caregivers and teachers to care for and listen to children's opinions, and regularly exchange information to understand children's needs and interests when participating in online activities.

To ensure safety, parents, caregivers and teachers need to update information on risks to children in the online environment and the knowledge, skills and tools to protect children in the online environment. Pay attention, support, accompany and guide children to implement measures to prevent risks and ensure safety when participating in online activities.

The Code of Conduct encourages monitoring and management of children's internet use, management of content that children access, post and share online, and children's relationships online. Parents, caregivers and teachers need to pay attention to unusual changes in children to ensure that children are always protected and supported promptly online; protect, encourage and help children when they encounter difficulties, problems, are bullied or abused online.

In addition, the Code of Conduct also recommends that parents, caregivers and teachers actively participate in activities to protect children online at home, school, community and society. Report and guide children to report to authorities when detecting acts of child abuse, risks to children online, and harmful content for children. At the same time, integrate content on child protection online into the teaching and guidance process for children.

By enhancing the role of parents, caregivers and teachers in accompanying children online, the Code of Conduct aims to build a safe and healthy cyberspace for Vietnamese children.
