Caring for poor patients and building new rural areas

Giving wheelchairs and rocking chairs to the disabled in Mo Cay Bac district sponsored by benefactors inside and outside the province (November 23, 2023).

According to the President of the Association for Supporting Poor Patients in Mo Cay Bac Quang District, Thi Xuan Hoa, from 2020 to now, the association has implemented 9 programs such as: giving gifts to poor households; building charity houses; scholarships and school supplies for poor and orphaned students; helping the needy, giving coffins to the deceased poor; "Charity kitchen"; heart surgery for the poor, eye surgery; giving wheelchairs, rocking chairs; building new rural areas and other support. The association focused on mobilizing to help poor families with 464,149 gifts with a total value of nearly 38 billion VND.

In addition, the branches also mobilized to donate 3,090 water tanks and 85,000m3 ^of clean water to poor and near-poor households. The association mobilized to build new houses and organize the handover of 109 charity houses and 2 "Heart-warm houses" to the poor with difficult housing conditions, repaired 17 damaged, leaky, and degraded houses; upgraded and repaired the Martyrs' Temple in Khanh Thanh Tan commune. Mobilized to grant 1,182 scholarships.

The district association and 13/13 branches mobilized to donate 58,106 notebooks, 65 bicycles and 9,230 moon cakes to students. The association supported 431 cases of sudden illness and difficult circumstances, and donated 207 coffins and burial tools to the poor who passed away. Charity kitchens in communes and towns: Khanh Thanh Tan, Tan Binh, Tan Thanh Binh, Phu My, Hoa Loc and Phuoc My Trung town, maintained support for the poor, workers, lottery ticket sellers, poor patients of Cu Lao Minh Regional General Hospital, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Hospital... in the past 5 years, 439,006 meals of rice, porridge, and bread.

In addition, the District Association also prepared a dossier and coordinated with the Provincial Association to mobilize 2 free heart surgeries for the poor in Phu My and Hung Khanh Trung A communes, with a budget of 270 million VND; brought 575 patients for cataract eye surgery with a total budget of nearly 2.4 billion VND in Ho Chi Minh City. The Association invited a group of doctors from Ho Chi Minh City to examine and provide free medicine to 1,444 poor and near-poor patients; mobilized to donate 45 shaking cars and 216 wheelchairs to the disabled.

The Association for Supporting Poor Patients of Mo Cay Bac district gives bicycles to poor but excellent students in the district.

In the past 5 years, the association has mobilized to build 105 new bridges, repair 2 concrete bridges, upgrade 9,508m of rural roads, build 4 safe routes in 3 communes: Phu My, Nhuan Phu Tan, Tan Binh and Phuoc My Trung town. In another support program, the association contacted Vinh Long Radio and Television Station to organize the program "Charity Bus" to support 4 disadvantaged families with a budget of 280 million VND...

Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, an 8th grade student at Nguyen Van Xiu Secondary School (Khanh Thanh Tan Commune), who received the scholarship, expressed her gratitude and promised: "We will always study hard to not let down the benefactors inside and outside the province."

Ms. Le Thi Van - who has contributed to the Association for the Support of Poor Patients in Mo Cay Bac District for over 13 years, said: “Over the years, I have been coming to Mo Cay Bac District to meet students, parents, leaders of the District Party Committee, the District People's Committee, and leaders of the Association for the Support of Poor Patients in the district, just like meeting my family members in my hometown of Dong Khoi. Ben Tre has many changes, especially in the new rural areas, including Mo Cay Bac District with 100% of its communes being new rural areas. However, Mo Cay Bac District still has 610 poor households, so we need to continue to support the district.”
