(Dan Tri) – Not only his poor family background, his name more or less tells the tragic life of the male valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology.
That student is one of 90 valedictorians nationwide (including 30 students from the Northern region and 60 students from the Southern region) receiving the 2024 Valedictorian Support Scholarship from the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund under the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and organized by Tien Phong newspaper.
Five students who received scholarships in previous years and maintained good academic performance will continue to receive scholarships on this occasion. The total value of this year's scholarships is nearly 1 billion VND along with many other gifts.
Le Hoai Han, born in 2006, is the valedictorian of Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology.
Perhaps the name not only tells a little about his childhood and painful life, but also shows the pain and bitterness that his parents have accumulated. All of that pain is present in Han, not just in his name…
Hoai Han is from Ben Tre, her father left when she was still in her mother's womb. Han's mother has the fate of a "sandwich" (referring to people who bear two pressures at the same time, supporting their elderly parents and children) when she plays both the roles of father and mother and also takes care of her elderly grandparents.
Life was so difficult that when Han was in 9th grade, his mother left him with his grandparents and aunt and went to find work in Kien Giang, sending money back home every month to support the whole family. As he grew up, Han gradually understood the hardships and pain his mother went through...
Admitting that he was not as lucky as many of his friends, Han soon determined that only studying could help him overcome his fate. Moreover, Han reminded himself to study hard not only for himself but also to bring a little more joy and make up for his mother's life.
That unlucky child has been an excellent student for 12 consecutive years, second prize in district-level math competitions in grades 8 and 9; third prize in provincial-level math competitions in grade 9; third prize in provincial-level geography competitions in grade 11... And especially the title of valedictorian at the entrance exam to Ho Chi Minh City University of Management and Technology in 2024.
The academic results that for Hau: "Are spiritual gifts that I strive to give to my mother".
Hoai Han shared that the day she officially became a student, she felt like she had matured and had many youthful ambitions, so she reminded herself to be more independent.
Knowing that her mother still had to support the whole family and the expenses were high, right after coming to Ho Chi Minh City, settling down and studying, Han immediately applied to work as a cashier at a supermarket to earn money to cover her living expenses.
Not only Hoai Han, the scholarship applications of many valedictorians made the organizing committee shed tears. There were many students born into adversity, orphaned or abandoned by their parents.
That is the story of Le Van Loc, the valedictorian of Hong Bang International University, who was abandoned by his own parents when he was born. As a child with a cleft lip and cleft palate, Loc was found by a couple of construction workers under a bridge in his newborn form and then taken to an orphanage in Quang Ngai.
Loc's childhood was without a father or mother but full of teasing and laughter from friends around him. Growing up, he had to undergo many surgeries and facial reconstruction...
In that situation, Loc was once immersed in self-pity about everything. The question “Why did my parents abandon me and why do I have such an unfortunate body?” haunted and tormented the child.
As he grew up, when he had the opportunity to meet, interact and communicate with the world around him, Loc's spirit gradually became more open.
When he realized that feeling inferior and self-conscious would not change his life or develop, Loc gradually learned how to step out of his "shell" world.
In addition to studying hard to change his life, Loc shared that he is learning to be grateful for the things around him. There, especially for him, he is learning to be grateful to his parents who created him even though they did not take care of him...
Or the case of Tran Ngoc Anh Thy, a first-year student at Thu Dau Mot University whose father died of a serious illness when she was only 17 months old. With only her mother to support her, Thy always thinks of her mother to try to study more and study better...
