The Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge project at the southwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, which was stopped in 2018, will be restarted in May and completed by the end of this year.

The information was sent by the Management Board of Traffic Construction Investment Projects to the press conference providing information on economic and social issues in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of March 14.

Accordingly, the termination of the BOT (build-operate-transfer) contract with the investor - Infrastructure Development Investment Joint Stock Company (IDICO) has been completed. Currently, the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is the project investor. Next May, the People's Committee of Binh Tan District will hand over the site for the project to be constructed. It is expected that the implementation period will last 8 months, and the bridge will be completed and opened to traffic on December 31.

The Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge project was approved by Ho Chi Minh City in 2017 and started construction in early 2018 under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, a BOT contract to replace the old bridge over the Tham Luong - Ben Cat canal. The bridge is 83 m long, 16 m wide, and the approach road is 225 m long. The project has an investment capital of more than 312 billion VND, which was later increased to 668 billion VND due to interest during the construction period and waiting for toll collection.

According to the contract between the city and the investor IDICO, the bridge will be completed by the end of 2018, and is expected to recover capital after 111 months of toll collection through the An Suong - An Lac BOT station on National Highway 1, about 500 meters away.

By the end of 2018, the project had completed about 70% of the volume, but was stalled due to land clearance problems. After that, Binh Tan district completed the land clearance but the project could not continue due to problems related to the signed BOT contract because the project was not in accordance with Resolution 437 of the National Assembly (not allowed to be built on existing roads).

People in the area have to temporarily travel by iron bridge to get to National Highway 1 or to the center via Tan Ky - Tan Quy road. The City People's Council meeting at the end of 2022 approved spending 491 billion VND to complete the bridge, switching from BOT contract to public investment.
