According to the contractor's commitment, Rach Gia port will complete phase 1 by December 31. But recently, this timeline has been adjusted.
On the afternoon of December 10, according to information from the Kien Giang Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (QLDAĐTXD), the Rach Gia Passenger Port project will be delayed to 2025.
Rach Gia Passenger Port will not be completed in time for 2024.
Previously, the contractor committed to put Rach Gia Passenger Port Phase 1 into operation by December 31, 2024. However, at the Kien Giang Provincial People's Council meeting (29th session, 10th term - special topic) on December 9, it was agreed to adjust three major transport projects of the province, including Rach Gia Passenger Port.
The reason for the adjustment is that during the implementation of the project, there were some difficulties and problems in site clearance, dredging waste dumping sites, unifying planning boundaries and connecting existing infrastructure systems, selecting station architecture and other auxiliary works.
Therefore, the remaining time is too short to ensure the project is completed by the end of 2024. Currently, the progress of phase 1 has only reached more than 80%.
The Rach Gia Passenger Port Project in Kien Giang Province started construction in 2019 (phase 2019-2024), with an initial total investment of 410 billion VND, sourced from the local budget. However, after many adjustments, the project has increased the investment capital to 488 billion VND.
The port will accommodate an expected passenger volume of approximately 2,320,000 by 2030.
Along with that, the Provincial People's Council's recent session also adjusted two other important projects: the Rach Gia - Hon Dat coastal road project and the western coastal road of Phu Quoc city.
For the Rach Gia - Hon Dat route, with a length of more than 20 km and a total investment of VND 952.96 billion, it has been reduced to VND 852.96 billion - a decrease of VND 100 billion compared to the initial investment, the adjustment period is from 2019-2025.
The reason for the adjustment is due to local site clearance problems, fluctuations in material prices, and scarcity of sand resources...
The port is due to be completed in 2025.
The 4.1 km long coastal route project in the west of Phu Quoc City has a total investment of VND 3,200 billion using the provincial budget, with the implementation period adjusted from 2024 to 2029.
Rach Gia Passenger Port is planned with a land and water surface area of about 34.96 hectares. The construction items include wharf, ferry terminal, station, parking lot, commercial area, shophouse, internal road, technical infrastructure.
The port is calculated and designed to accommodate an expected passenger volume of approximately 2,320,000 by 2030.
The purpose of building Rach Gia Passenger Port is due to the increasing demand for passenger travel to the islands: Phu Quoc, Nam Du, Lai Son, Hon Tre, especially during peak times during holidays and Tet...
